    Magna Carta

    A bunch of feudal lords forced King John to sign it, it limited the power of the king and gave rights to mostly the lords but also some rights to the common man. It stated that nobody could be punished if they haven't broken the law, and they have a right to first be judged by a jury of their peers.
  • James I marries Anne of Denmark

    James went to Denmark to fetch his queen, during this time he was exposed to witch hunting and became very invested in witch hunting himself.
  • James I becomes king of England.

    Elizabeth I dies, king James IV of Scotland deemed closest heir to the throne of England. His coronation effectively united Scotland and England.
  • Gunpowder Plot Fails

    36 barrows of gunpowder is discovered hidden in the House of Lords, ready to blow up James I. The plotters were all arrested and executed.
  • James I doesn't call parliament for 7 years

    James had conflict with the parliament, they wouldn't give him money if he disregarded them. James thinks he's above the parliament and doesn't have to listen to them.
  • Charles I becomes king

    Charles is the son of James I, he also believes in devine rights of the king.
  • Charles I marries Henrietta Maria

    Henrietta was French and Catholic, the mostly Protestant parliament was displeased.
  • Duke of Buckingham is assasinated

    Favourite of James, continues to advice Charles after James dies. Murdered after he keeps giving Charles bad advice, starting needless wars.
  • Long Parliament is called

    Called by Charles to fund an army against the Scots, sat for 13 years through the entire Civil War.
  • Grand Remonstrance passed by parliament

    A list of crimes Charles I had committed, the document is significent because it deemed that monarchs should be persecuted for their crimes (other than by god).
  • First English Civil War starts

    Charles officially declares the war to commence, it's Roundheads vs. Cavaliers. Roundheads were the parliament supporters, Cavaliers were the monarchy supporters.
  • Scotland joins Parliament's Side in English Civil War

    The Scots dislike Charles because he was also the monarch of Scotland, and he had tried to impose the Anglican church onto the Scottish Presbytarians.
  • Pride's Purge (Rump Parliament begins)

    Members of the Long Parliament who didn't want Charles to be executed were thrown out, turning the Long Parliament into the Rump Parliament.
  • Charles I is executed

    Charles was declared guilty of treason and beheaded. Oliver Cromwell effectively becomes leader of England.
  • England becomes a republic

    England is turned into the Commonwealth of England, the Rump Parliament was in charge and Cromwell was called the "Lord Protector", effectively ruling England.
  • Oliver Cromwell dies

    Cromwell dies from disease, effectively leaving England leaderless.
  • Rump Parliament officially dismissed

    The rump parliament could not hold their power for long and is finally dissolved. A new parliament was called later.
  • Charles II restored to throne

    Charles II is officially crowned after being exhiled. He abdocates the Blue Laws put in place by Oliver Cromwell
  • Seven Years War begins

    England vs France and Spain, affected their colonies in America too. Native Americans sided with the French colonies, so it's also called the French-Indian War.
  • Seven Years War ends

    The Treaty of Paris ends the Seven Years War. Britain wins over France and Spain, but all of them have racked up war debt.
  • Royal Proclamation

    King George bans land speculation to the west of the Appelassian mountains.
  • Stamp Act

    Britain taxes its colonies in America to relieve debt from Seven Years War, angers colonists because they had no say in the matter. Stamp Act lasted one year before it was repealed.
  • The Boston Massacre

    Fight that resulted in 5 Bostonians shot by British soldiers
  • Boston Tea Party

  • Boston Port Act

    One of the Intolerable Acts. Closed Boston Harbour after the Boston Tea Party until the damages were paid back to the East India company.
  • Battle of Lexington & Concord

    First major battle of the American Revolution "The British are coming!"
  • Louis XVI's coronation

    He was 19 at the time
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Actually fought on Breed's Hill, near the Boston Harbor. British took the hill but suffered heavy losses.
  • Battle of Trenton

    George Washington vs Hessians (hired German soldiers). Resounding victory for Washington.
  • France joins the American Revolution

    France fights with Americans against the British.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Last major battle of the American Revolution. Cornwallis surrenders.
  • US Constitution goes into effect

  • Tennis Court Oath

    The National Assembly is formed, they take an oath to not rest until French has a new constitution
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Mob of Third Estate people seize guns and ammunition from the Bastille and destroy it. Some First Estate people got their heads cut off and waved around on sticks.
  • Women's March on Versailles

    Mob of women attempted to kill the queen after hearing rumors that she was hoarding grain.
  • Louis's attempted escape to Varennes

    Louis and Marie Antoinette tried to escape from Paris into Austria to plan a counter-revolution with the help of Austria and Prussia. They were disguised as servants, but they were busted the next day. The people felt betrayed by their own king, which only fueled the revolution further.
  • France declares war on Austria

    France ends up being in war with multiple surrounding countries. Some declared war to suppress the revolutionary ideas from spreading, but France went to war with Austria in order to steal their grain.
  • Louis XVI executed

  • Assasination of Marat

    Killed by Charlotte Corday, who was a Girondin sympathizer and claimed to have killed one man to save a hundred thousands. Except everybody at first thought Marat was the good guy who sacrificed his life to the revolution and made paintings of him where's he's not ugly.
  • Reign of Terror begins

    Over 25000 people executed during the reign of terror
  • Marie Antoinette is executed

    Aged 37
  • Execution of Danton

    Danton wanted a more moderate approach to the revolution and did not approve of the killing during the Reign of Terror. Robespierre had Danton and his supporters executed for being anti-revolutionary.
  • Execution of Robespierre (Thermidorian Reaction)

    The National Convention arrested him and a bunch of Jacobins for pushing the Reign of Terror waaaay too far. Also his brother wanted to be arrested alongside him and was also executed on the same day, that's hardcore brotherly love yo.
  • Napoleon stages coup d'etat

    General Napoleon overthrew the constitutional republic France had going on. You could say that Bonaparte... ...ripped their bones apart. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH
  • Napoleonic Code instituted

    The code is a simple and straightforward set of civil laws that allowed freedom of religion and forbade birth priviledges.
  • Napoleon's Coronation

    Napoleon stages his coup d'etat and becomes France's emperor.
  • Napoleon's first exile

    He gets exiled to Elba and Louis XVIII is instituted back in France.
  • Napoleon returns to France

    Napoleon escapes from Elba and marches to Paris with a regiment of soldiers. Britain and other surrounding countries formed the Seventh Coalition and immediately started attacking France to end Napoleon's rule.
  • Battle of Waterloo

    Napoleon vs the Seventh Coalition. Napoleon lost the battle and ended up being exiled again.
  • Napoleon's second exile

    He gets exiled to Saint Helena this time.
