  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    Memebers from the 3rd estate was locked out from the meeting hall; This caused them to move into the tennis court. The oath they had between them was to "never to seperate" until a new constituiton of france was made. Their solidarity forced Louis XVI to order the first ans second estate to join with the Third Estate in the National Assembly to know what they are doing.

  • Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizan

    Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizan
    It was adopted by the national assembly as the first step toward writing a constitution for France. The declaration went on to proclaim freedom and equal rights for all men, access to public office based on talent, and an end to exemptions from taxation.Everyone were to have the right to take part in the making of laws. The king refused it.

    War with Austria
    Over time, some European leaders were fearing that the revolution would spread their countries. The rulers of Austria and Prussia even threatened to use force to support and restore Louis XVI to full power, so the legislative assembly declared war on Austria which effected the economic shortages in Paris.
  • The Directory

    The Directory
    The national convention redused the power of the committee of public safety. The churchs weakend, a new constitution was created and it established two chambers : a lower house which initiated legislation; and an upper house, the council of elders. The directory was unable to find a solution to the country's economic problems. It relied on the military to maintain it's power.
