  • Preliminary Task Final Product

    Preliminary Task Final Product
This is my final school magazine. I have added the usual conventions such as a logo, masthead, photo, date and cover text. Compared to my music magazine, this is quite simple as I only used Pages to create it but decided to use Photoshop for my music magazine. This meant that I could add extra feature which is typical for a music magazine and I am pleased with the fina product.
  • Preliminary Task Evaluation

    Preliminary Task Evaluation
This is my evaluation for my school magazine. I reviewed what I had done since the very beginning of the research and what I had learnt since. Compared to my music magazine evaluation, I have learnt a lot more about music magazines from the typography to the conventions.
  • Starting Music Magazine Research & Planning

This where I started to have my first thoughts for my music magazine I was going to be creating. I had to analyse a lot of features of a music magazine which I would have to think about and consider for my music magazine to make it look professional and well thought out.
  • Music Magazine Front Cover Analysis

    Music Magazine Front Cover Analysis
This was the first task for the research and planning of my music magazine. I had to analyse front coverd by picking out major details and why they have been chosen. Compared to the preliminary task I only looked at the photo, font and colour before creating a plan and then designing my school magazine. This already meant that I had done more research for my magazine which will help in the constructing process as I can come back to this and make sure I'm choosing the right decision.
  • Institutional Research

    Institutional Research
This is where I first looked at the possible institutions for my music magazine. From this I got a background for what they are like and what types of music magazines they publish. Also I did another institutional research task where I did further research into institutuions I was interested in, such as Bauer Media. Overall these tasks helped with when choosing my institution for my music magazine which gave me a idea of my magazine in the real world.
  • Audience Research

    Audience Research
This is where I looked at music magazines audience and what each of them did to show the target audience range of their music magazine. This gave me an insight into the target audience for my magazine and I would have to think about this in the constuction process. I want my magazine to easily show who the target audience are so they pick it up whe they see it in a shop.
  • Thinking of a Concept

    Thinking of a Concept
This is where I first thought about the whole concept for my magazine and what I wanted it to be like. This included the colour, typography, name, features, audience, genre, main photo and fashion. This meant that for future research and planning tasks, I could focus more on the concet for what I wanted my magazine to be like.
  • Magazine Name

    Magazine Name
At this stage I knew the target audience of my magazine and what genre I wanted my music magazine to be. This meant that I could start thinking of a magazine name. I decided my music magazine would be called 'Trend' which was a risk because it can also associate with clothing. For the preliminary task, I didn't have to think about the agazine name much as it would be the name of the school for whos magazine it was.
  • My Rate Card

    My Rate Card
My rate card I designed for my magazine made me think about the audience of my music magazine a lot more as I had to think of occupation, background (demographics) and percentages of males to females who would read my magazine. When I was constructing my magazine, I could come back to this to make sure that what I had chosen for my magazine would be for what my target audience would like and hopefully pick up off of the shelve.
  • First Article Draft

    First Article Draft
This is my first article draft for my pop artist on the double page spread. This helped me for what to put on the double page spread including photo and headline. I decided to do a Q&A because I thought that this is more exciting to read and would interest the target audience more as it's their questions they asked. From the preliminary task, I hadn't carried out any written text and so for me this is new but I had looked at other music magazines for inspiration.
  • My Flat Plan

    My Flat Plan
This is what I wanted my music magazine to include inside. I tried to base it around my target audience by including Q&A, competitions, reviews and articles with artists who my target audience like. This was harder to decide than for my preliminary task because I found it quite obvious for what should be included in a school magazine. To help me I looked at other music magazines which similar target audiences to see what they included.
  • Photo Shoot Planning

    Photo Shoot Planning
This is my photo shoot plan and I created one for each shoot I was going to do for the front cover, contents page and ouble page spread. In this task I had to think about location, type of shot, lighting, date and time, costume and the model I was going to choose who wouldbe attraactive to the target audience of my magazine. For the preliminary task, I didn't think about the photos in this much detail and I now realise how much a difference planning a photo shoot can make.
  • Typography

    Typography
The typogrpahy for a magazine is a very important feature as different styles of text can give different connotations which could be good or bad for te target audience of your magazine. In the preliminary task, I used a simple font for the main text and a squared title. I didn't think too much about the typography here as I chosen what I liked and what was simple and readable.
  • Magazine Logo

    Magazine Logo
This is when I chosen my magazine logo as I knew the name of the magazine and the target audience. I wanted to go for a simple but effective look which would still stand out on the front cover compared to other things on the page. I found this task quite difficult compared to when I created a logo for the preliminary task. This is because for a school magazine I could realte it to the name of the school or things youwould expect in a school but I couldn't do this for my music magazine.
  • Page Mock Plans

    Page Mock Plans
To design these plans for the pages, I had a general but more of a fixed idea for what I wanted my magazine to look like. From the preliminary task, I hadn't thought about alignments and the positioning of text and photos to draw in the audiences attention. However throughout the research from looking at existing music magazines, I have seen on how they aligned their pages which would overall make the magazine look proffesional.
