When completing our preliminary we were mainly focused on including all the shots and points we were told to include. Therefore, we only used the 180degree rule, match on action and shot reverse shot, in our preliminary task, we did not experiment with over shots.

However, when filming our final film opening we used a range of different shots which we had learnt about when completing research. These include the point of view shot, close up shot, extreme close up, tracking shot to create verisimilitude, the 180degree rule, match on action and shot reverse shot which we learnt in our preliminary task, Although our camerawork has improved significantly, the preliminary task was a great place to start and learn basic camera skills for the final product

Our mise-en-scene skills have improved immensely. The preliminary task we didn’t pay any attention on the mise-en-scene. We focused on making sure we hit the brief and included all the shots and points we needed to achieve the shots set. However, for our final product we put in a huge amount of effort into setting and overall look of our film. This was due to us all completing a huge amount of research on film openings and the horror genre which can be seen from mis-en-scene analysis on my blog.

we were able to use parts of different film openings we enjoyed, for inspiration for our own.

The sound in our preliminary tasks was extremely limited. We only included the diegetic sound of our dialogue as we didn't really focus on sound as we didn't find it a necessity for our prelim as long as viewers saw the difference in shots and got an idea of the storyline. For our final product we used non-digetic sounds such as background music from Youtube then converter them into an mp3 to use in our final movie to enhance the dramatic effects in our film.

The progress we have made from our preliminary task has been immensely improved from the techniques used to the skills we have learnt to put forth into our final media product to conform to the codes and conventions needed for the task set which was to film a media opening using the genre of our choice.

Our editing skills have improved as in our prelim task little to nothing editing was used apart from the use of basic transitions from i-movie which is what we produced our prelim task with, updating to Final Cut Pro this was more advanced to use but more complicated than i-movie due to the options that we're available us, it did become easier however once getting familiar to the software as we were able to overlay images, add different effects to enhance the whole product as a whole.

the preliminary task, our dialogue told a story, but it wasn’t very interesting or gripping. but in our final film we believe it was gripping to our audience as it included reverse psychology i.e Josh (our main character) beginning to question his surroundings and how our audience never really got to see the figure that our protagonists 'thought' they saw.

Furthermore in our film opening we developed our narrative through the dialogue. We did this by the use of mise-en-scene, sound and our editing skills.

    Conclusion

I think it is clear to see how far our group has come. Even from our first edit of our film opening, it wasnt as up to the standards that were set, I believe it is when we reflected on these shots, we realised that we needed to improve immensely. That is when we went back, changed the script (3 times), characters and took the whole task much more seriously to come out with a good product
