    Bertha Wilson was the first female on the Supreme Court. She is one of the most controversial and intruguing judges. This is significant because this shows the rise of women's rights and status in Canada. This improvement helped Canada become a better country.
  • Constitution Act

    Constitution Act
    This was created because the Trudeau government wanted to patriate the Constitution of Canada from United Kingdom. The significance of this event is that Canada finally achieved the partiation, which will protect the rights and freedoms of Canadaians.
  • Jeanne Sauvé

    Jeanne Sauvé
    She was the first women to be Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada and then she was appopinted the first women as the Governor General of Canada. She was known for her excellent management and leadership skills. This is significant because she declared that it was an important break-through for all women in Canada.
  • Meech Lake Accord

    Meech Lake Accord
    The Meech Lake Accord was signed by ten provinces and Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. This is significant because this made large changes to Canada's Constitution and it also addressed Quebec's concerns. However, the Accord died on June 1991, when Manitoba and Newfoundland refused to sign it.

    Canada, Mexico and the U.S. signed a treaty called the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in1994. The signifiicance of this is that under this treaty, certain goods traded between these countries are tax-free, and it affected their economies in a positive way. In addition, it shows that the whole North America is united.

    Between January 4th and 10th, 1998, parts of Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec were hit by 3 storm fronts that have caused a lot of damage. This ice storm has been called the greatest natural disaster in Canadian history. Its significance is that nearly twenty percent of Canada's population was afffected. This shows that the Canadians are strong and powerful.

    9/11
    The Twin Towers of the Workd Trade Center in New York was bombed by an Islmic Terrorists group called al-Qaeda. The leader of this group is Osama Bin Laden. This event is significant to Canada because this bombing transformed Canada into a more conservative and serious country than it was in the 1990s.
  • Winter Olympics

    Winter Olympics
    The Winter Olympics was held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on Feb. 12, 2010 to Feb. 28, 2010. This is significant because Canada has won 14 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze. Our first place in the metal table told the world that our people are strong.
