The short term effect on this was that it allowed some stores to have locations in Canada and the United States. Expanding stores allowed more jobs and more money to be made for each company.The long term effect is that Canada ended up expanding free trade and now has other trading partners.

    1989 is when the Free Trade Agreement went into effect. This was after the 1988 Federal Election that had free trade as an issue. The Free Trade Agreement, which is also known as the FTA, allowed the trades between Canada and the United States to not have taxes on it. If this had not come to be in effect it would have been bad for working people in the long run. It would have restricted imports, which would have not been good. In 1989 the tensions between the two sides were starting to ease, and resulted in The Fall of the Berlin Wall.

    The fall of the Berlin Wall represents freedom. The Fall of the Berlin Wall was important to Canada because Canada was apart of the United Nations, whom was part of the fall and because of governments changing. The short term effects were because of the wall coming down things changed drastically and it represented freedom. As well as the long term effects are that when the wall did fall the government changed, very much.

    At the end of WW1 is when Yugoslavia was created, it was held together by communist dictator Josip Tito. When he died tensions had surfaced and fighting began. People were being attacked and because of this thousands of people had died. The United Nations created several areas that could provide safe areas for refugees. Canada went over to help with this mission. Canadian peacekeepers were sent to Yugoslavia to try and maintain peace and freedom. Canada failed to make peace and freedom.

    Canada even had to defend themselves at various times while on this mission. This mission was important to Canada because Canada is to be known as peacekeepers, but failed on this mission. The short term effects were that peace could not be kept. The long term effects are that the former Yugoslavia did eventually break up.

    On September 11, 2001 there were four airplanes that were stolen by terrorists. Two of these planes were flown into the twin towers, one was flown into the Pentagon which is located in Washington, D.C. and the fourth plane was flown into a field in Pennsylvania. 2752 people died on this day. This event changed the world more than anyone could ever believe to be possible. This event was important to Canada because it changed the way security at airports is everywhere.

    As well as Canada accepted most of the planes on this day and supported The United States. The short term effects were that Canada declared a National Day of Mourning and some people thought that the U.S.A. was behind the attack. Long term effects are because of this event, you now need a passport to be able to get into the United States and the security at air ports and baggage checks are very serious about every little thing.

    October 2011 after 9/11 Afghanistan refused to give away Osama bin Laden's hiding spot. Due to the fact that they refused to give away the hiding place the United Nations and the United States created the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization can also be referred to as NATO. This allowed them to invade Afghanistan, for self defense purposes. Canada had also joined into this to help find the hiding spot.

    The war in Afghanistan is important to Canada because Canadian soldiers are fighting over in Afghanistan. Also because the hiding spot being an important thing that needed to be found since the terrorist attacks on September 11 was a world event that changed everything. The short term effects are that no one knew this would result in the war continuing for over ten years. The long term effects are that in the end they found the hiding spot, and killed Osama bin Laden.

    After the 9/11 event Canada was one of 47 countries that went over to Afghanistan when things were hectic. Canada tried to keep peace in Afghanistan during the time when they were organizing a new government. A new government was being formed because Afghanistan's Taliban government was being accused of sheltering Osama bin Laden, which was no good because he was the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks.

This was important to Canada because Canadian soldier risked their lives to try to make/keep peace. The short term effects of this were that the Taliban government stopped, making it a need to form a new government. The long term effects are that even though there's a new government, there is still war going on in Afghanistan.

An example of this is when local television stations converted digital television.

Things kept changing late in the 20th century, as of 1992 long-distance telephone companies added to the CRTC as well as other things as time went on. The 1990s were when Internet use an communication technologies went into a rapid growth, but by February 2009 the CRTC planned to review all policies.

There was a continuous conflict that entered into a debate about whether Canadians should stay in Afghanistan and how long they should stay there. NDP leader Jack Layton said that the troops should return home from Afghanistan. While Prime Minister Stephen Harper said that Canada should stay. Each has different reasons as to why they chose what they did.
