    Drought in Canada
    Drought in Canada made it hard for farmers to farm and make money.
    Drought started in 1929 and continued for 9 years until 1937. Drought started because mostly all the farms were located in the Saskatchewan prairies, it didn't really rain and the soil was only rich for so long. Drought allowed grasshoppers to breed like crazy because of the dryness, they devoured everything and caused 13,900 farms to be left abandoned by 1936.
    Farmers were greatly effected, because they were not making money

    Poverty in Canada
    In October 29th, 1929 the stock markets crashed and people started to sell their stocks, the prices of stocks fell. People used loans to pay for luxuries and couldn’t pay them back. Canadians in poverty started doing risky things to get money. Banks got shut down because people couldn’t pay back loans. Poverty peaked from 1933-1934. Canada got hit extra hard, but western Canada didn’t get hit too hard. Poverty happened because of unemployment and most people couldn’t afford what they owned

    These camps were a place for single men to live instead of living in poverty, but in exchange they had to work 44 hours a week and got paid 20 cents a day.
  • The Path of War

    The Path of War
    When WWll started it brought back many tragic and sad memories to Canadians and politicians. In September of 1938 British Prime Minister postponed war by sacrificing Czechoslovakia in the Munich crisis. Canadian Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King thank the British Prime Minister publicly and Canadians in general agreed.
  • The Battle of Hong Kong

    The Battle of Hong Kong
    In 1940 the British regarded their crown colony of Hong Kong and its 20,000 man garrison in the event of war with Japan and decided to go against re-enforcing it. In September 1941 the Canadian government agreed to send soldiers to Hong Kong, even though they were not fit for action. After 22 days of being in Hong Kong the Japanese attacked and the Canadians surrendered on Christmas day.
  • The Dieppe Raid

    The Dieppe Raid
    The raid was designed to test the Allies' ability of amphibious assaults against Adolf Hitler's "Fortress Europe". The raid was a disaster and ended with fairly high casualties.
