Lifetime Personal Health

  • In My 20s

    In My 20s
I will eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, etc. in order to prevent the formation of illness later in life, such as diabetes or heart disease. For physical activity, I'll play sports regularly and jog every evening in order to stay in shape. I'll prevent health issues by learning about my family health history and finding a primary healthcare provider to stick with. I'll routinely perform self-examinations, and meet my doctor regularly.

    In My 20s Part 2
Because my 20s can be a time of many changes and stress, I'll be extremely mindful of my mental health. Getting a job and buying a house are huge stressors during this time period, so I'll take time regularly to have some sort of expression such as art that will represent a creative outlet through which I can manage my stress. In addition, another issue in the 20s is sexual health, so I'll regularly get tested for STDs and regularly use contraception.

    In My 30s
In my 30s, physical exercise is just as important as it was in the 20s! I'll find time to exercise for at least 30 to 60 minutes a day. I'll likely visit a local gym, walk my dog (I'm sure I'll have one), or just jog. In terms of my diet, I'll be sure to consume plenty of vitamins as usual, paying extra attention to the amount of sodium in my diet and minimizing it as much as possible. This lowers my risk for heart disease later in life.

Balancing my work life with getting plenty of sleep will be difficult, but it must be done, because getting the right amount of sleep is vital. To ensure I'm getting enough, I'll stay off screens for an hour before going to bed and not work past a certain time of night. In terms of preventative care, I'll do my best to reduce stress without heavy alcohol use or drug use of any kind. I'll wear sunscreen, and visit the doctor regularly for checkups in order to ensure my body is healthy.

    In My 30s Part 3
I don't have a desire to drink, so I'll be sure to be the designated driver for my friends to ensure nobody gets hurt. Overall, the 30s will be full of fun, but also work, including reducing stress and eating well.

    In My 40s
The 40s will be my time to reverse any bad habits I've developed in order to prevent issues later in life, such as diabetes. Common health concerns of the 40s include stress and sexual reproductive health, so I'll pay special attention to my body and exercise regularly for at least an hour a day. I'll probably join a gym, so that I have a place to regularly go and get motivated.

    In My 40s Part 2
People in their 40s typically have vision problems, so I'll probably have to go get a new prescription (I wear glasses already). I'll continue to eat healthy and not smoke, and get regular checkups to determine my blood pressure, whether I'm at risk for diabetes or stroke, and how to change my diet if needed. A big concern for men is prostate cancer, so I'll be sure to get checked for that as well.

  • In My 50s

    In My 50s
The diet is a huge part of staying healthy in the 50s. When I get there, I'll be sure limit the amount of fat in my diet and eat plenty of protein and minerals. I'll do some weight-bearing exercise, which decreases my risk for osteoporosis, which is when an older person's bones begin to weaken and become brittle. I'll be sure to keep my body at a healthy weight, which becomes difficult in this time period but can be done with regular exercise.
  • In My 50s Part 2

    In My 50s Part 2
Some issues for people in their 50s are cancer and heart disease, so visiting a doctor for regular checkups will be necessary in order to make sure I live as long as I can, as healthily as I can. I'll get regular immunizations and EKGs to ensure my aging body is coming along nicely. I'll have to make sure I do this regularly, as my 50s will likely be full of work and stress. I'll have to make time to exercise, take care of myself, and get my body checked out by a professional.

  • In My 60s

    In My 60s
In my 60's, I need to watch my body closely to determine how i'm aging and whether I should be alarmed. For example, I'll keep an eye on my cholesterol and BMI to understand my risk for heart disease. I'll get at least 30 min of exercise a day, as long as it's easy on my body, such as water aerobics. Nothing too crazy. I'll eat healthy as always, including 5 servings of veggies and 3 servings of whole grains every day.
  • In My 60s Part 2

    In My 60s Part 2
I'll visit the doctor even more regularly than usual to get tested for problems such as shingles and skin cancer, among other things. In terms of prevention, I'll learn how to prevent falls, in addition to doing activities such as puzzles in order to keep my brain sharp. Cognitive and physical health are both very important during the 60s, so I'll be sure to balance both in order to be happy and healthy.
