    King James convinced his Parliament to pass the "Black Acts," allowing him the authority over his church and giving him the right to appoint Bishops. These acts were later partially repealed - James was forced to allow a full Presbyterian government system for his church, but held the power to create titular bishops with seats in Parliament.
