"Black Acts"
King James convinced his Parliament to pass the "Black Acts," allowing him the authority over his church and giving him the right to appoint Bishops. These acts were later partially repealed - James was forced to allow a full Presbyterian government system for his church, but held the power to create titular bishops with seats in Parliament. -

The Queen of England died early in the morning, and Henry VII, the senior surviving decendant, was declared her successor. At ten o'clock that morning, King James VI of Scotland was proclaimed King James I of England at Whitehall Gate in London. This united the Crowns of Scotland and England. -
