    The partition

    The United Nations voted to separate Palestine into Arab and Jewish states. Israel declared independence and six Arab states attacked but Israel beat the combined states. Control over Jerusalem was devided with Jordan and Isael.
  • The Six Day War

    Israel launched a surprise attack. Syria, Jordan, and Iraq joined but were still beat by Israel. They then captured East Jerusalem, West Bank from Jordan, Gaza, Sinai, and Golan Heights.

    Settlements

    Israelis created settlements which are illegal, but continue to expand the settlements. They believe the OT belongs to the Jews. Cmmunites are surrounded byb safety zones where the palestinians can't farm, and roads they cannot use.
  • The Yom Kippur War

    Egypt and Syria suprise attacked the Israeli forces on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur. A cease fire was declared by Israel and they withdrew parts of Sinai and the Golan Heights.
  • Signs of Peace on the Horizon

    The Egyptian president visited Jerusalem and then the U.S president made peace between Israel and Egypt. Israel was the first of the nations to to recognize Israel and Israel withdrew from the rest of Sinai.

    The Intifada

    The Palestinians began an uprising because of Israels occupation in the West Bank and Gaza. A suicide attack on civilans in Israel took place in 1989. This uprising lasted until 1990.
