    41 681 Imigrants
41 681 immigrants were allowed entrance to Canada. This was a start for immigration. The immigrants might have left their country because of over population and need for money to afford their needs.
Immigration in the 1900's was good for Canada because Canada wasn't even a country in 1900.
  • Black Oklahoman Farmers

    Black Oklahoman Farmers
The Black Oklahoman Farmers had been the target of racism in their home state. They wanted to move to Canada (Edmonton) but the Edmonton Municipal Council had called Ottawa to stop the immigration. In 1911 an order in council was drawn up that excluded "any immigrant belonging to the Negro race, which the race is deemed unsuitable to the climate and requirements of Canada".
This is important because racism in the U.S.A still existed even though the American Civil War (1861-1865) was over.
  • End of War

    End of War
After the German Revolution War from 1918-19, immigrants were fired from their duty,so that jobs the immigrants had, could be offered to returning soldiers.
This event is important because immigrants have to leave their jobs as returning soldiers were favoured to get their jobs.
  • The Railway Agreement

    The Railway Agreement
The Railway Agreement was signed by the Canadian National Railways, the Canadian Pacific and the Government. They let in more than 185 000 Central Europeans to gain access to Canada under agreement to work on the railway connecting Canada.
It is important because this railroad connected Canada with B.C. to make it a full country by using immigrants to make the railroad.
  • Japanese Canadians

    Japanese Canadians
22 000 Japanese Canadians were banned from within 100 miles of the Pacific Ocean. Many went to "Dentention Camps" in B.C., some went further east.
This is important because back then we also put people in "Dentention" Camps like the Germans did to the Jews except they put them in concentration camps.
  • Italians

    Italians
In 1947 italians were removed of the saying ''Enemy Aliens''

This is important because in the World War II (1939 - 1945) we were against them and now we are at peace with them.
  • Handicapped

    Handicapped
8 provincial governments agreed to join in on bringing 50 handicapped refugees to Canada.
It is important because handicapped should have rights to immigrate because of some countries don't give rights to the handicapped people.
  • Asia and the Caribbean

    Asia and the Caribbean
Immigration from the Caribbean and Asia showed over 23% of total of immigration. Previous years were 10%.
This is important because it shows the immigration has grown over the time.
  • Sikh Refugees

    Sikh Refugees
A group of Sikhs came to Canada and landed in Nova Scotia and claimed refugee status. Brian Mulroney, the Prime Minister at that time called an emergency recall of Parliament to discuss the tabling of Bill C-84, the Refugee Deterrents and Detention Bill. The bill was not passed for a whole year.
It is important because they made a new rule about refugee status.
  • B.C. and Manitoba

    B.C. and Manitoba
