1948 Amendments
In 1948,amendments where made that stated that Homosexuals where to be further criminalized for “criminal sexual psychopath” and “dangerous sexual offender.” This is a huge decline in Canadian history Not only do Homosexuals have to hide there Identity they have are now forced to believe they are some kind of monster -
Everette Klippert is Arrested
Everett Klippert is arrested for being gay . He tells the police he is gay and will not change under any circumstance he ends up getting sentenced to a very long prison sentence just for being gay. I believe this is a decline in Canadian history as someone is being prosecuted for being Gay which is something they cant change the law is meant to keep the public safe he is not endangering anyone. -
Bill C-150
Bill C-150 was the bill that made Homosexual activities legal in Canada for consenting adults at the age of 21 and on. The Federal Minister of Justice at the time Pierre Elliott Trudeau wanted to change the laws to match Canadas Values. I think this is huge progress for Canada they are finally starting to have a more open mind towards things that they still may not understand but are at least not punishing people for harmless acts. -
Canada Lifts Ban on Homosexuals In The Forces
In 1992 The Canadian government finally lifted the Ban on Homosexuals in the Forces. The reason for the change was the fact that parliament felt that it went against Canadas Charter of rights and beliefs. I think this wildly progressive. the forces are normally known to be a very macho place and now that homosexuals are allowed to fight for there country it would hep break down some negative stereotypes that went along with being Gay at the time. -
The legalizations Of Gay Marriage (The most important to me)
In 2005 Canada becomes the fourth country to legalize gay marriage.
Personally I believe this is the most progressive thing Canada has done in regards to gay marriage. The messaging is that us as Canadians are finally are seeing homosexulas as real people and that they are welcome and safe here. I think a lot of homosexulas felt that when this Law was passed that they did not have to hide there love anymore and that although there is still a lot of work to be done it is a huge step to equality.
