    SS St.Louis
    In May the MS St.Louis was a ship built by Bremer Vulkan the ship was to head to set sail from Hamburg to Havana to help over 908 Jewish refugees find homes unfortunately, as the boat approached Havana the Cuban government declared the visas invalid and refused the entry to the passengers. After four weeks the Belgian King and Prime Minister agreed that 200 passengers could settle in Belgium. This event is significant because The ship became a German naval accommodation ship from 1940 to 1944
  • Canada Declares War

    Canada Declares War
    In 1939 Canada declared war on Germany in Europe because all the allies declared war because Germany invaded Poland.Ths is significant because Canada was apart of the British so Canadians supported the British by fighting for our freedom today. Over 37,000 Canadians soilders died and over 8,000 were POW. After the war Germany was defeated and if it wasnt for all the Allies we wouldnt have our freedom like we do today.

    In Augest 1941 in Ottawa The formation of the Canadian Womens Army Corps in WWll is a milestone in the history of womens participation in the Canadian military. Women fought to be treated just like men, they wanted to be apart of WWll they wanted to be in a higher class and getting some money in. This event is significant because it was a huge milestone and women got to do alot of things they werent aloud to do before. Later on many women joined to help during the war.

     The Battle of Hong Kong
    In December 1941 the Japanses wanted to take over the British island of Hong Kong. Japan wanted to take over the island from Britian. Britian got Canadians involved, 1,975 Canadians went to Hong Kong and more than 1,050 were either killed or badly wounded and 557 to prision. They had split into two sections, Canada and British helped fight against the Japanses, but most died.This event is significant because most Canadians were trained and most died or either went to prison camps where they died

    Japanese internment
    During WWll the goverment forced Japanses Canadians out of their homes and were sent to camps. The Japanese internment happened because Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and everyone blammed and thought all Japanese were apart of it. This event is sighnificant because Japanese lost family members, there homes, and jobs they were put in burtal camps. Later on Canada apologized to the Japanese in 1988.
  • Dieppe Attack

    Dieppe Attack
    In France August 1942, the Dieppe attack happened because commanders and leaders they wanted to test the German defenses. Failure, 900 men died in one morning and 2000 prisioned. This event is significant because over 900 Canadian men died in one morning it was a total failure.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    On June 6th, 1944 a combat attack the day of the Normandy landings initiating the Western Allied effort to liberate mainland Europe from the Nazis. This happened to end WWll, over 946 Canadians were killed and 2,700 British. This event is significant because this was the end of WWll and it was also the largest amphibious assault in history also, It marked the start of the Allies invasion of Western Europe and paved the way for an Allied victory.

    The liberation of the Netherlands
    In september 1944 in the Netherlands Liberation Day is celebrated every year on May the 5th to mark the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II, because the Canaidians helped the Dutch fight off the Nazi's and they were free again. This event is significant because the Dutch and Canadians now have a strong relatioship and every year the dutch celebrates by giving us tulips.
