    Restrictions on "Enemy Aliens"
    Rating: -2 Description of Event: During World War 1 Canadians got too carried away with nationalism and patriatim. This led to many innocent people being thrown in jail just because they were from enemy countries. These people were called "Enemy Aliens". Justification of Rating: This event does not make me proud because it goes against Canada's acceptance of other cultures. This kind of event should have never happend in such a multicultural country.
  • Battle of Vimy Ridge

    Battle of Vimy Ridge
    Rating: 0 Event Description: On April 12, 1917, Canadian troops took over Vimy Ridge. It was a big victory for both the Allies and Canadian independence. Unfortunently this event also cost us the ives of 10,000 canadian soldiers. Justification of rating: Although this was a great victory, it doesn't make me proud that Canadians were killing other people and that canadians were being killed.
  • Discovery of Insulin

    Discovery of Insulin
    Rating: +2 Event Description:On January 11, 1922, insulin was sucsessfully tested as a treatment for diabetes. This saved many lives and was invented by canadian scientists, Banting and Best. Justification of Rating: It makes me proud that Canadians were the ones to save all these lives based on this one scientific discovery.

    Rating: -2 Event Description: On october 29,1929, the stock market crashed. This was the begining of the Great Depression and lefft many Canadians with nothing. Justification of Rating: This was a awful event that harmed all of Canada. It would take the next decade to fix. People should not have put that much faith in the stock market

    The Great Depression
    Rating: 0 Description of Event: After the stock market crashed, the economy collapsed. This led to many buisiness failures and many people losing their jobs. Almost everyone would remain poor throughout the 1930s until World War 2 would restart the economy. Justification of Rating: This was a major event but it cannot be used to judge Canada because really good or really bad was done about the issue and because it was an international crisis for which Canada was not fully resposible.
  • New Political Parties

    New Political Parties
    Rating: +1 Description of Event: The Social Credit Party, Co-operative Commonwealth Federation and Unione Nationale were founded during the Great Depression as protest parties. Since then many other parties have joined them. Justification of Rating: I am proud of this event because it lead to our government having a lot more voices heard and gave the people more parties to choose from while voting.
  • Canada Declares War

    Canada Declares War
    Rating: +2 Event Description: On september 10, 1939, Canada independently declared war on Nazi Germany. This was the first time they had independently declared war. It showed the world that Canada had a voice of it's own. Justification of Rating: Although I am usualy against Canada going to war, this is an exception because it was something that they had to do, or risk letting Europe being taken over by Hitler, and they did it even though it did not directly effect them.

    Canada Joins the U.N.
    Rating: +2 Description of Event: From April to June of 1945, many countries joined the newly formed United Nations, including Canada. The U.N. was formed after WW2 as a way to keep peace in the world and as a place for nations to talk. By joining, Canada started it's tradition of being peacekeeps and international problem solvers. Justification of Rating: I am proud of this event because it shows that Canada is a peaceful country and wants to work with other nations to make the world better.

    Canada does not join the Vietnam War
    Rating: +2 Description of Event: Throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s, the U.S.A. was at war with Vietnam. We could have easily joined them, but we desided not to. Justification of Rating: This makes me proud because it was a pointless, bloody war in which both sides were not fighting for a good cause and I am glad that Canada had the sense not to join.
  • Canada Stops the Suez Canal Crisis

    Canada Stops the Suez Canal Crisis
    Rating: +2 Description of Event: In 1956, a conflict broke out at the suez Canal in Egypt. It could have easily resulted in a nuclear world war 3 if the canadian ambasidor, Lester Pearson, hadn't had the idea to send in the first ever U.N. peacekeeping force. This event also resulted in Canada's first Nobel Peace Prize. Justification of Rating: This makes me proud to be Canadian because it shows that we aree a peaceful nation and that we can solve international problems.
  • Maple Leaf Flag Adopted

    Maple Leaf Flag Adopted
    Rating: +1 Description of Event: On February 15, 1965, Canada officially changed it's flag to what it is today. Although it outraged many Canadians at the time, it did a lot to prove that we were an independent country. Justification of Rating: This event makes me proud because it showed the world that we were an independent country and not just pat of britain, as the old flag suggested. I also believe that our new flag looks a lot better than the old one.
  • Charter of Rights and Freedoms

    Charter of Rights and Freedoms
    Rating: +2 Description of Event: On April 17, 1982, Canada put into effect its charter of right and freedoms. It gives all Canadian citizens their basic rights and freedoms and cannot be overwritten by anyone without the consent of all the provences and territories. Justification of Rating: It gives Citizens the rights and freedoms that make Canada the great, free and fair country that it is.
