- First day of battle had 60 000 casualties
- Very controversial opinions around this battle because so many people died only for 8 kilometers of land

No. 2 Construction Battalion

- First and only all-Black battalion
- Many Black men wanted to enlist in war but were denied due to their skin colour, hence the battalion
- I am so glad that Black men had an opportunity to work but I believe segregation may not have been the way to go

- Canada won the battle
- Turning point for Canada
- Sadly though, 10 600 Canadians were either killed or injured

- Took away the vote from enemy aliens though
- PM Borden was only passing this law for his own benefit
- Law was passed due to the idea of conscription

Halifax Explosion

- 2 ships crashed into each other which caused an explosion
- Largest man-made explosion at the time
- About 2000 people died, 9000 were injured, and more than 25 000 became homeless

Nellie McClung (Date: Death)

- She was a women's rights activist
- Helped reform Canada to be more gender equal
- McClung was very active in many campaigns
- She fought for women dower rights
- Made sure factories were safe
