  • Louis XVI crowned King of France

    Louis XVI crowned King of France
    Louis XVI was crowned king on May 15, 1774 only five days after his father Louis XV died of smallpox. His crowning took place alongside his Austrian wife Marie-Antoinette who also became Queen of France.
  • Calling of the Estates-General

    Calling of the Estates-General
    The Calling of the Estates-General was the first meeting between the three Estates after 175 years. The three estates were made up of the Nobility, the Clergy, and the regular people of France. They gathered to discuss financial problems and voting policies. The three estates sat for several weeks dicussing that they should vote by Estate which gave the Third Estate a disadvantage.
  • Formation of the National Assembly

    Formation of the National Assembly
    After the Third Estate got tired of their disadvantages and injustice, they decided to meet separately. The National Assembly, also known as the Communes, decided to work independently to gain their liberty, They were gradually joined by noblemen and also became less out-spoken.

    After the Third Estate was locked out of the Estates-General metting, they decided to meet in a tennis court until a constitution was written for France. The Third Estate then formed into the National Assembly. This event commenced the French Revolution.

    One morning in Paris, France, the medieval fortress and prison called Bastille was attacked to show the Royal Monarchy the anger of the people. People gathered in search of gun powder and arms. The people burned down the fortress, releasing the seven only prisoners and killing the guards.

    The Great Fear was a panic of all people in France for a time period. Peasents were scared of a starving of the population or burn-out because of a grain shortage. Peasents also attacked manor houses because of these rumours of starvation.

    Women of France forced Louis XVI to leave Versailles because of harsh financial issues and grain shortage. The women killed several guards which lead to the royal family leaving Versailles. The women's plan was succesful considering the situations.

    France was suspicious that foreign powers could easily defeat their weak government so they put matters into their own hands. France's Legislative Assembly declared war on Austria because of their fear of being defeated by other countries.
  • The National Convention is Formed

    The National Convention was formed during the French Revolution to control the problems in France. The National Convention had no social classes and also contained the Legislative Assembly. They also founded the First Republic and also suspended King Louis XVI. The National Assembly succeded in writing France's consitution.

    Louis XVI was guilty of many crimes but could not really be arrested due to being the King. During the French Revolution, the King was weak and able to be arrested and executed. He was killed with the Guillotine successfully and it also ended an absolute monarchy.

    The Reign of Terror was a period of violence after the French Revolution. This period was due to political conflicts between the Girondins and the Jacobins. This period led to mass executions of "enemies of the revolution".

    The Thermidorian Effect was an uprising during the French Revolution against the Jacobins. This event was affected by a vote of the National assembly to execute leading members of the Revolutionary Government.

    The Directory was France's next-to-last type of government during the French Revolution. The Directory was successful in foreign-policy even though it was a kind of ineffective dictatorship.

    Napoleon Bonaporte dominated France during its fallen monarchy in the French Revolution. He rose to power during the latest stages of the French Revolution. His Napoleonic Wars were mostly successful as emperor.

    During a battle between Waterloo and France, Napoleon was finally defeated by Duke of Wellington.This event finally ended the Napoleonic Era.
