    America declared themselves their own country, separating from Great Britain. Important since it declared the ideals and goals for the new nation.
  • Louis XVI calls the Estates General to session

    Louis XVI calls the Estates General to session

    Called the Estates General so that the three estates could talk about a new taxation law. Important because this was what sparked frustration, which eventually led to the French Revolution.
  • The National Assembly and the Tennis Court Oath

    The National Assembly and the Tennis Court Oath

    Met to create a new government, since they were kicked out of Estates General. Important since this showed the increasing unrest of frustration against King Louis XVI and the other Estates.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille

    People who opposed the King stormed the Bastille, killed all the guards there and burnt the place down. Important since this was the first event that started the French Revolution.
  • France is declared a Republic

    France is declared a Republic

    France abolished monarchy and put in the new form of government, a republic. Important because it set boundaries for different branches of government and stripped the King’s political powers.

    Louis XVI is executed for treason, he had failed to find solutions for the financial problems in France. Important because this officially ended the long age of absolute monarchies in France.

    Demonstrated the harsh punishments for counter revolutionaries and foreign enemies. Important since it showed effectiveness against those who opposed.

    Robespierre, the leader of the Reign of Terror, was killed which officially ended the reign of terror. Important since it stopped the killing of over 17k.
  • Napoleon becomes Emperor

    Napoleon becomes Emperor

    Made himself Emperor by abolishing the Consulate. Important because it started his conquest to dominate and control most of Europe
  • The Napoleonic Code

    The Napoleonic Code

    Code abolished the feudal system and freed peasants from serfdom. Important since the code is still used across Europe in many countries.
  • Napoleon in Russia

    Napoleon in Russia

    Napoleon went in with 600k but only 100k made it out alive. His men had no supplies since Russia burnt their own and kept retreating back. Important since this saved Europe from total control by Napoleon.

    Congress of Vienna Concludes

    Created a balance of power across Europe for almost a decade. Important because Europe was in such ruins, many countries could not afford to go into war with anybody.

    Brought an end to the Napoleonic Wars, stopping the constant war threats and conquering of Europe. Important since this ended about a 15 year war period of constant attack on European countries from Napoleon.
  • Napoléon Coup d’Etat

    Napoléon Coup d’Etat

    Overthrew the directory and substituted the Consulate. Important because this is what really ended the French Revolution.
