  • Meeting of the Estates General

    King Louis called a meeting at Versailles of the Estates General to discuss about the problems they had financially. They were thinking about putting more tax on people from the 3rd Estate and since it was 1 vote per estate, it was obvious that the 3rd Estate will lose the voting. Realizing so, they requested that the voting be by majority, and thats when the National Assembly was started.
  • Creation of the National Assembly

    After the King turned down the request, the 3rd Estate didn’t listen to orders and created the “National Assembly” along with some members from the 1st and 2nd Estate that felt like voting should be more fair. It was held in an indoor tennis court and everyone had to take an oath to never leave the group until all votes were fair. Although there was no violence involved, it was the start of a revolution.
  • The Storming of the Bastille

    I group of angry rioters marched to Bastille and demanded weapons for everyone so they can defend themselves against any of the King’s actions. The commander denied to give them any and was killed. The angry rioters put his head on a stick and marched down the streets.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen - August 26, 1789

    The National Assembly made the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen that was about "liberty, equality, and fraternity". They got the idea from the American Declaration of Independance and some ideas from famous and well known enlightenment philosophers.
  • Creation of the National Convention

    The National Convention was formed on September 20, 1792. The convention was in power for 3 years and it ended on October 26, 1775. The National Convention members were french men over the age of 25. It was elected to make a new constitution for the country after king Louis XVI was overthrown on august 20th 1792. The national convention ordered the king to be executed.
  • Execution of the King

    The Montagnards, one of the three factions of the National Convention, were eager to execute the king to prevent the return of the monarch. The King was sentenced to death by the National Convention on January 21, 1793.
  • Reign of Terror

    On September 5, 1793, The Reign of Terror began when Robespierre declares terror, the order of the day. The 2 year killing started of the enemies of the french. It all ended with Maximilien Robespierre’s execution in 1795.
