Sep 3, 1791 The new constitution is completed, establishing a constitutional monarchy. 1792 September Massacres - violent attacks on prisoners. Apr 20, 1792 France declares war on Austria. Aug 10, 1792 Storming of the Tuileries Palace; the monarchy is effectively overthrown. Sep 21, 1792 National Convention abolishes the monarchy and declares France a republic.
