  • Estates General

    Louis XVI calls the Estates-General, a meeting of all three estates. This was the first time this meeting was held in 175 years.
  • National Assembly created

    The Third estate seperates itself from the First and Second estate. They become the National Assembly.
  • Fall of the Bastille

    A mob looking for guns stormed the Bastille prison. They overtook the prison and this was an important act of revolution to the French.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen

    The National Assembly adopted this document to guarantee rights and freedoms. It guaranteed equal justice, freedom of speech and freedom of religion.
  • Womens March on Versailles

    The woman of Paris rioted over the price of bread and marched ov Versailles.They broke into the palace and demanded that Louis and Marie return to Paris.
  • Louis tried to escape

    Louis and the Royal family tried escaping to the Austrian Netherlands. They were caught and returned to Paris under guard.
  • New Constitution

    The National Assembly agreed on a new constitution. It made changes such as a limited monarchy and the addition of the legislative assembly.
  • France declares war

    Austria and Prussia urged the French to restore Louis to power in order to protect their own monarchies. France then declared war.
  • Louis and his family taken hostage

    A radical group called the Jacobins stormed the Tuileries palace and took Louis and his family hostage. They were looking for death.
  • No more monarchy

    The Legislative Assembly takes control of the government, The monarchy is abolished and the Republic of France is declared.
  • Louis is executed

    Louis XVI is founded guilty and is sent to death by guillotine.
  • More wars

    France declares war on the Netherlads and England. France is now at war wiith most of Europe.
  • The Terror begins

    The terror beigns and hundreds are guillotined everyday. Anybody that challanges Robespierre is killed
  • France is victorious

    France wins the war against most of Western Europe.
  • Marie Antoinette is excuted

    Marie Antoinette is sentenced to death by guillotine.
  • Robespierre is executed

    National Convention sentences Robespierre to death by guillotine. This results in the end of the terror.
  • France adopts a new constitution

    The French governement adopted another constitution.
  • The Directory

    The Directory becomes the new government body of France
  • Napoleon wins

    Napoleon beats the Austrians in battle. This led to him being called the savior of the French Republic
  • The revolution is over

    Napoleon seizes control of the government. This is the end of the revolution.
