In the year 1000 Eric the Reds son Leif the Lucky (Leif Erickson) has sailed west from Greenland. He has spoted 2 peices of land maybe Baffin Island and labrador. Then he landed south in Newfoundland. There he found wild grapes and named the land Vinland

In 1008 Torfinn Karlsefni and about 160 other people set sail to vinland to establish a settlement. They didn't say for long but while they did Thorfinn and his wife (Gudrid) had a son and they named him Snorri. People thought that Snorri was the very first European born in Noth America.

Columbus was born in Genoa Italy on 1451. He was a highly educated map creater and mariner. He also belived that the earth was round and that if someone was to sail they could reach the Far East by sailing west.

After about one month sailing at sea Columbus finally saw land. And that land he saw turned out to be the Bahamas. Then he sert sailed southeast of Florida.

In 1497 Cabot sighted land it could have been Cape Brenton Island. But later he had found out that it wasn't China. So then he claimed the land for King Henry VII of England.

Then Cabot traviled farther south and found water that was filled with swimming Cod fish and then named the land Newfoundland.

Later Cabot set sail again with 5 more ships to search for the Far East. He had sailed along Bafin island, Labourdour and Newfoundland to search for eastern civillization but the weather made his journey hard.

In the year 1499 John Cabot was lost. But some people say a storm sank 4 of his 5 ships. Other say that he returned to England and died there.

Later back in France the King sent Jean-francois se la Roque de Robervat to estabailsh a france colony. Then Jean met Cartier in Newfoundland but Cartier wanted to go back to France but Jean wanted Cartier to stay in Cananda.

Jaques Cartier returned to Canada and he settled in Quebec. His crew had difficulties controling and they caused trouble with the natives. And what he thought was gold was really ross and worthless substance.

In 1603 the king gave Aymar de Chaste a monopoly over a fur trade in Canada. And so he said that the captin for the Mattew would be Samuel de Champlain.

The king had appointed Sieur de Monys with a monopoly over the fur trade in Canada and then had challenged him to establish a settlement. And he was reaquired to bring in 60 new settlers to Canada every year for 10 years.

First De Monts and Champlain tried to establish a settlement in Acadia on St. Croix Island. Then they decided to move on to Port Royal where they finally established a successful french settlement in Canada.

Then later the 2 men established another French settlement at Stadacona. And this was to be a permanent fur trading post.

Then in 1615 Champlain made it as far as the Great Lakes.On his trip he had lost his astrolabe. Then over 200 years later it was found near Pembroke Ontario from a framer who was ploughing his land.
