Marco Polo was most famous for his travels to Cathay and Persia and his work with Kublai Khan. He was born Semptemeber 15, 1254 in Vinice. He is the son of Niccolo Polo. He died in 1324, and was almost 70 years old. Marco was buried in the Church of San Lorenzo. Click here for more information

John Cabot was born in Italy in 1450. He made a voyage in 1497 on the ship Mathew and claimed in Canada for King Henry VII in England. King Henry VII issued letters patent to John and his sons, authorizing them to seek out new lands. He made the Travel with one ship; ran out of food, and had to turn back Click here for more information

Jacques was born in 1491 in Saint-Malo. He was given a mission to sail to the Pacific through Canada. He started the exploration May 10, 1534, and didnted return till September. Cartier died at the age of 65 or 66 on September 1, 1557. Clcik here for more information

Sir Francis was born in 1540 around febuary. Francis Drake made a secret logbook and it said I like sailing in a ship much more than having dull lessons on reading and writing. When I grow up I bet I will be the greatest sea captain in all England! In 1577 Francis Drake sets sail for his around the world. Drajke died Jan 28, 1596, but it still remains untold on how he died.

Walter Raleigh (also spelled Ralegh) was born in around 1552. In 1578, Raleigh sailed to America with explorer Humphrey Gilbert, his half brother. In 1585, he sponsored the first English colony in America on Roanoke Island (now North Carolina). 1603 he was accused of plotting against King James I and IV, and was sentenced to death. Samuel was born around 1567. Champlain was a French explorer and navigator who sailed much of northeastern, North America and started a settlement in Quebec. In 1608, Champlain led 32 colonists to settle Quebec in order to establish it as a fur-trading center. He died from stroke on December 25, 1635. Click here for more information

Henry Hudson was born September 12, 1570, and he died June 22, 1611. Henry Hudson had 4 ships that he sailed on. Henry liked to go on an expedition once a year at least. Hudson now has three North American waterways named after him: Hudson Bay, Hudson River, and Hudson Straight. Click here for more information

James Cook was born in 1728 in Marton, England. Cook spent his free time learning about math and navigation. In 1755 Cook volunteered for the British Royal Navy. James Cook voyaged alot of land from being in the Navy. He was a trustworthy Captain, and fought for his life. He was killed in a fight with islanders over the theft of a boat in 1779 in Hawaii. click here for more information

Vancouver was born June 22, 1757 in King’s Lynn, England. Vancouver was captain of the British expedition that arrived in the Pacific Northwest in 1792. George Vancouver entered the Royal Navy at the age of 13 as a seaman, and worked his way up to Captain by the time he retired. He died May 12, 1798. Click here for more information

Leif was born in Iceland in about 960 AD. He was a Viking explorer. Leif was the first European to set foot in the New World. This opened alot of exploring and land for the Vikings. For some reason the Vikings only explored a few voyages. Nobody knows the reasoning behind the Vikings travel. Click here for more information
