First Airplane flight
In 1909 the first airplane flight was in Nova Scotia. This technology was further developed in the 1920s. Later the government would start to set up airports. -
First Radio Station In canada
On December 1st, 1919 the first Canadian radio station obtained a broadcasting license. It was named XWA meaning “experimental wireless apparatus”. The first official broadcast happened in May 1920. This would be the oldest radio broadcast to exist. -
Discovery of Insulin
Insulin was discovered by Sir Frederick G Banting , Charles H Best and JJR Macleod at the University of Toronto in 1921 and it was subsequently purified by James B Collip. (“first use of insulin in treatment of diabetes on this day in 1922”) It was mainly used for people with type 1 diabetes. -
Hydroelectricity from Niagra Falls
From the years 1917-1921 a large scale project was being built that would be a power generator using Niagra Falls. This would be able to provide a power source to the close area. -
New Farming Technology
In the mid 1920s, new farming technology arrived in Canada. Devices such as Gasoline Tractors, combine harvesters, and some other technology. Refrigeration and pasteruastion was also becoming more widespread during this time. -
Long Distance Telephones
In 1927 Candians had the ability to telephone not just other people in the country however people in America and Europe. During this time period direct connections also came to exist which removed the need for an operator. -
Manufacturing Resources in Canada
In the 1920s, production of different artificial fibers began in Canada. Some examples where Viscose rayon in 1925 and cellophane in 1931. -
Canada Rail System
In 1931 the construction of the northern ontario railway. It was an extension from North Bay to James Bay. The project began construction in 1931.
