    In 1923, Canadians excluded any immigrant of any Asiatic race except agriculturalists, farm labourers, female domestic servants, and wife and children of a person legally in Canada.

    Canadian Government allowed legal residents (and not just citizens) to sponsor fiancé(e)s, spouses and unmarried children. This is a significant event because this sponsorship allows you to be with people that you want to be with.

    In 1947, Italians were removed from the list of "enemy aliens" leading to a period of significant Italian Immigration. This event is very important because Canadians accepted Italians in Canada.

    Immigration from Asia and the Caribbean
    In 1970, Immigration from Asia and the Caribbean represented over 23% of the total, compared with 10% four years previously. This event showed that after the Asiatic Exclusion in 1923 more asians immigrated to Canada.
  • Resettlement in Canada.

    Resettlement in Canada.
    In 1979, 60,000 refugees from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia were resettled in Canada. Responding to media reports of the "boatpeople", thousands of Canadians came forward, giving a dramatic launch to the new refugee private sponsorship program. Popular pressure forced the government to adjust upwards its initial commitment to resettling the refugees. i chose this event because it shows that many people chose to ressetle in Canada to have a peaceful life.
  • Foreign Domestic Workers Program were introduced.

     Foreign Domestic Workers Program were introduced.
    In 1981, people that applied for the Foreign Domestic Workers Program were introduced. They had a temporary contract but they could apply for permanent residence after 2 years in Canada. I chose this event because it shows that people from other countries chose to immigrate to Canada to have a better life.
  • Kosovar refugees from Macedonia.

    Canada accepted an appeal from the UNHCR for countries to evacuate Kosovar refugees from Macedonia. On arrival in Canada, the refugees were initially housed in military bases before being resettled throughout the country. In addition to the 5,000, the Canadian government moved quickly to resettle refugees with family links in Canada or with special needs. This is significant because this event showed that the discrimination to other cultures had stopped.
