    The padlock law was offically called "Act to protect the province against communistic propaganda". Passed by the Union Nationale. This law prohibited the use of propaganda to propagate communism. This was signifigant to canada Because it meant they wouldn't go into a comunist government.

    In september 1945 Igor Gouzenko worked at the Soivet Embassy as a cipher clerk. Igor had many private soviet secrets that he intended to give to the Canadian government. These documents apparently showed a network of spies in Canada. This was important for Canada because if Igor did not hand over the documents then Canada would not know about the spies in Canada.

    North Atlantic treaty organiztion. It is a defense pact intended to protect members against soviet agression. All members pledge to help protect members. There were 12 founding memebers. This is significant because it will stop the soviets from ever being able to attack and win.

The DEW Line was a line of Radar Sites along the coast lines of North America to north Alaska for early warning of unfriendly intruders. This Helped canada stay safe during potential bombing.

This affected Canada because of where the bombs were dropped. And the fact that NORAD was in suport of Diefenbaker doing it.

Canada being so close to the US could have been highly impacted if the cold war turned to nuclear conflict.

    Also known as the summit or super series this was a 8 game hockey series between canada and the Soviets. Canada won the series. This was significant for canada because it showed how good they were at hockey and what they could do as a single nation.

    Berlin had been politically divided since the end of World War II by a wall. In 1989 the wall was taken down. The following days were most unusual for the whole of Germany. The government was not in as much control. This was also leading to the end of the Cold War which would be good for Canada making it significant even though the wall was so far away from them.
