This also had given the attorney general power to close any house for any purpose whatsoever for a period of time but not for more then one year. This act had given given him more power

    Igor Gouzenko Was working with the soviet union as a spy and was collecting information. He was working in Canada but when he found out that he and his family were about to be sent back to Russia. He then offered the Canadian Government Secret documents which would expose the work of the soviet spies, but in return he wanted full protection from the soviet. He then went into hiding with his family. The documents were later sent to britain and America.

    In 1948 the soviet union had broken and agreement with its former allies. The Blockade was made to block all supply lines coming in but this had failed because the allies had organized airlifts to provide the food and other supplies that the residents of west berlin needed badly. the blockade did succeed by rasing tensions between the Soviet Union and its former allies.

Several countries in wesstern Europe had become very conserned, In 1949 Several nations had formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO.

    In 1950 Communist North Korea, supported by Communist China, decided to attack South Korea. The united states supported south korea against communist aggression. Under american influence, the security council of the United Nations Called on the UN members to help out during the war in south Korea. Of all the member nations only 16 aided the war effort in south Korea. Canada had Ranked third in total aid.

    The Suez Crisis was a diplomatic and military confrontation between in late 1956 between egypt on one side and Britain, France and isreal on the other, with the United States, the Soviet Union and the United Nationsplaying major roles in forcing Britain, France and Isreal to withdraw.Lester B. Pearson had come up with the solution to the end of all this.It was to withdraw all shooting and create a special UN peace keeping force which would monitor the withdrawl of forces. Ended November 7 1956.

    John Diefenbaker was the leader of the Conservative and had led them to a minority government in 1957. The Conservative government had cut taxes, helped farmers in western Canada, and raised seniors' pensions from $40 to $55 a month. Later as the Canadian prime minster he helped farmers, he scrapped the expensive avro arrow. He had ordered ready made American Bomarc missles for Canada's defence, but war heads weren't allowed into Canada.
