Canadaian Immigration Timeline

  • Immigration Act

    Immigration Act
The act has enshrined and reinforced restriction and reinforcements. You need legal authority to deport immigrants and the reasons for deportation are public charge, insanity, infirmity, disease, handicap, and committing crimes of mortal turpitude. All of the deportations had occurred in 1905. But after 1906 the numbers had increased.
I chose this one because i think it’s cruel to deport them because they're handicapped or have disease!
  • Jewish Refugees Not Accepted To Land

Jewish Refugees Not Accepted To Land
930 Jewish refugees sailed on the St. Louis but no country in America would let them land and 44 Torontonians sent a telegram to the Prime Minister urging that sanctuary would be given to refugees. So the ship was sent back to Europe and then 3 quarters died in the hands of Nazis.
I chose this one because Canada seemed pretty selfish and racist back then. And because they were they basically killed the Jews who were forced to go back to Europe.
  • Japanese Canadians Expelled

    Japanese Canadians Expelled
22000 Japanese Canadians were expelled within 100 miles of the Pacific so many of them fled to detention camps in B.C and many went further east. The Detention continued until the end of war. The Canadian Government encouraged many to repatriate Japan so 4000 left, more than half Canadian-born and two thirds Canadian citizens.
It seems kind of racist by forcing the Japanese to go back to Japan.
  • Canadian Citizenship Act

    Canadian Citizenship Act
The Canadian Citizenship Act was adopted, creating a separate Canadian Citizenship. It was distinct from British and Canada was the first common wealth to do so.
Its great that we were the first to do so.
  • Italians Removed From "Alien" Category

    Italians Removed From "Alien" Category
Italians were removed from the "enemy alien" category. Which lead to a period of significant immigration.
It’s good that the Italians came off the enemy aliens list so they could immigrate to Canada.
  • Assisted Passage Loan Scheme

    Assisted Passage Loan Scheme
Interest-free Assisted Passage Loan Scheme was created and restricted immigrants came to Canada.
I think this is important because they let the restricted immigrants come to Canada only if they do work here like farming or mining.
  • 10 Millionth Immigrant

    10 Millionth Immigrant
The 10 millionth Immigrant since the Confederation was celebrated. The 10millionth Immigrant was a British psychiatric named Dr. Swinson and his family.
I chose this one because i think it’s awesome that 10 million immigrants came to Canada.
  • Lowering Immigration Levels

    Lowering Immigration Levels
Announcement of lowering Immigration levels and shifted away from family Reunifications.
It’s bad they lowered the levels and shifted away from the reunifications.
  • Agreements For Administration of Settlement Services

Agreements For Administration of Settlement Services
Governments of B.C and Manitoba signed agreements with their federal governments allowing them the responsibility for the administration of settlement services.
The governments of Manitoba and B.C are very co-operative to let them have settlement services.
  • Chinese Refuse To Immigrate To Canada

Chinese Refuse To Immigrate To Canada
A boat with 123 Chinese passengers arrived from the West coast. The first four boats arrived in the summer. Response was hostile. Most Chinese kept in detention camps. And some irregularly prevented from making refugee claims. The problems were highlighted by the Canadian Council for Refugees.
It’s horrible that some wouldn’t be able to make refugee claims and that most of the Chinese were kept in detention camps.
