    Britain Declares war on Germany (+1) (Political)
    When Germany failed to the ultimatum that British Prime minster Herbert Asquith gave them Asquith declared war in order to support Belgium. Canada is a colony of Britain, since this was prior to the to the statute of Westminster, Canada was a part of the war as well. This lead to Canada losing many lives of men to the effort, and ultimately changed Canada in a positive and negative way.

    The battle of Somme in France was one of the most disastrous that Canadian and British army had ever faced. Most troops were from Newfoundland an Labrador, with a low population since most men were gone fighting in the world war 1. There were only 57,000 Canadian and British troops. 90 % of the troops were eliminated the failure of the British bombardment which took out German machine guns in the trenches

    Jeremiah Jones was a black Canadian soldiers in World war 1 despite the racism Jeremiah fought along side white men and played a huge role during the world war 1 led an attack and captured an entire German machine gun and there weapons, but was always over looked because of the colour of his skin

    On May 24 1917, women with the age of 21 years or higher were able to vote in election, however most women with the color of skin were still unable to vote until the past century.

    The Halifax explosion happened on December 6 1917. The cause of the explosion was that 2 vessels collided in the strait of the Halifax Harbor. Once the two ships collided it took a bit, but then the biggest man made the explosion had ever happened. It was so fast that it wiped out a huge chunk of Halifax and about 3000 people were killed

    This influenza appeared after the world war 1 and had the most impacted on Canada and the world. The flu was brought into Canada from returning troops and soon made itself a country killing about 50,000 Canadians. The disease tend to kill people of younger and more healthy stature. Leaving many children parent less. As well many armies hurt in numbers

    Prohibition was a temporary solution during to a social problem in during and after the war. The consumption of alcohol increased the chance of domestic abuse and arrest for drunkenness. Prohibition created bigger problems when bootleggers emerged from the ashes of prohibition, making and selling illegal liquor or elegant private clubs were established. Eventuality prohibition was dropped due to the immense profit being lost by the government, and the fortunes being made by ilegal suppliers

    On November 11, 1918 at 11:00 am the war ended. Germany surrendered and the armistice was signed. This was so significant for Canada because they didn't have to fund the war anymore and the government was already in dept. People in the country celebrated this day and honored all the people that survived in the war.

    The Winnipeg general strike occurred in spring 1919. It was caused by workers that demanded a higher pay, but their employers would not negotiate. That's when 30,000 people when on strike. Riots broke and one person was even killed.

    Many countries went through a great depression at a certain point, and the great depression hit Canada in the late 1929. One of the main causes of of the great depression is that unemployment was at an high. The taxes were begin to rise there were lack of jobs it made it challenging for parents to provide for their children.
