    This battle which lasted until November 11, 1918, proved the Canadians independant abilities and strengths one last time before the end of the first world war. Canadians lead allies to final victory.

     Treaty of Versailles
    Canada signs this treaty as an independant nation.
  • Chanak Crisis

     Chanak Crisis
    Canadian Prime Minister King tells Great Britian that Canada will not go to war just becuase Great Britain is going to war. Rather, Canadain parliment will decide if Canadian troops go to war, bringing Canada closer to total independance. When Britain is threatened by the Turkish, King declines military support.

     Halibut Treaty
    The Halibut treaty was a Canadian/American agreement for fishing in the North Pacific ocean. It was the first time a Canadian signed and negotiated an agreement instead of Britain.
  • King Byng Crisis

     King Byng Crisis
    This affair took placewhen Mackenzie King and the Liberals won fewer seats than the Conservatives, but refused to back down and remained in power with the support of the Progressives. When King asked the Governor General Byng for a reelection, he refused. This tested and proved the power of the British Monarchy in Canada.

     Balfour Declaration
    This declaration signed at the Imperial conference stated that Britain and it's dominions had equal status, and were all self-governing countries. The Governor General would now be the only representative of the British Monarch in Canada.
  • Diplomatic Posts in U.S.

     Diplomatic Posts in U.S.
    These diplomatic posts happened between 1927 and 1929. Canada assigned their first ambassador to a foreign country which was the United States and is elected to the Council of the League of Nations in 1927. Then in 1928 communication between Great Britain and Canada is done between the high commissioner instead of the Governor General. In 1929
    Canadian embassies are found in Paris and Tokyo. All of these events prove Canada's growing independence.

    This stated that Britain could no longer pass or disallow other dominion’s laws.
