    Passchendaele
    In the land where poppy's now grow as a symbol for the dead soldiers from world war 1. Passchendaele was an important battle for Canadians. It showed the strength and courage of the Canadian army and its brutal strength on the battle field. The Canadian army was seen as a threat doing the hard dangerous work and this gave a boost in reclaiming lost land which was done quickly due to the help of Canadian soldiers.
  • Paris Peace Conference

    Paris Peace Conference
    After winning the war alongside with Britain and other allies such as the U.S. The Paris Peace Conference was held to talk about the war and what will happen to Germany, who really made the war big. This was important because Canada got it's own seat and wasn't seen as a British subject.
  • Chanak Affair

    The Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King wanted the Parliament to choose weather to send troops to help assist the British. They did not just send the troops without choice. They wanted to have their own policy and say in what they can do. But by the time the Parliament discussed and came up with a plan on if they were going to send troops or not, the Chanak Affair had already passed. For this Arthur Meighen a member of the conservatives, criticised King's for being disloyal to Britain.

    It was a treaty between Canada and America. Britain was expecting to sign the treaty aswell but they didn’t end up signing it as Canada wanted it to only be between America and Canada. It was a treaty made for fishing rights and since Canada saw that it didn’t really involve Britain they shouldn’t need to sign it. The importance of this treaty is that is was the first treaty Canada signed independently.

    It is where Britain declared that all of dominions were independent. It allowed Canada to be independent and have a louder voice in what they get to do. Also, this mean't that Britain didn't have that much control over Canada anymore. It was a document that confirmed Canada's independence. This also mean't that all of the dominions were all equal.
  • King Byng Crisis

    King Byng Crisis
    The Governor General Julian Byng refused the prime minster William King’s request to dissolve the parliament and have a new election. Instead, Julian decided to ask Arthur Meighen to attempt at making the government. By doing this he made the Prime minister angry. An election was still held after. As Julian Byng was British he was interfering with how Canada was running the government.
  • Statute of Westminster

    Statute of Westminster
    It gave Canada and other dominions part of British control full freedom. This was unless they chose to stay under British control. This allowed Canada to be more independent and rely less on Britain.
