    This was the start of the first world war, this was not the best time for Canada, in losing 61 thousand men, it could've gone better. Now Canada not being in famine for most of it's people, and weren't getting directly attacked, but over all this was point in time was a progress of decline for Canada

  • 2nd Ypres - formidable fighting force

    2nd Ypres - formidable fighting force

    During the War, Canada was tasked to defend Ypres from German fleets, the Germans decided it was a good time from them to test out their new gassing technology on Canadians as they were defending Ypres Salient. This gas attack caused major causalities, but in the end Canada was able to push through it, and was able to defend the Salient.

  • Vimy Ridge

    Vimy Ridge

    Canadian troops were ordered to capture Vimy Ridge in April 1917. The Canadians carefully planned their assault as Vimy Ridge was heavily fortified with artillery and guns. On the 9th, the Canadians, along with the British, stormed Vimy Ridge just as they'd planned, and ended up victorious in the end. The Canadians were awarded for their bravery and planning.

  • Wartime Elections Act

    Wartime Elections Act

    This act gave the right for most women to vote, (women who'd married Canadian soldiers) for federal elections, which was a huge deal back then that has had a considerable change to society in present day. This act also however made it so that any immigrant Canadians who was born in a "enemy" country, would not be allowed to vote in federal elections. Although this act was harsh to everyone but English-Canadians, it is still a big part in Canadian history during WWI

    Battle of Passchendaele

    In this battle, the Canadians had to fight against a threating German Blockade that could cripple the British. This battle lasted for a couple days and caused severe damage to both Canada and Germany. But in the end, and thanks to the Canadians support, The British empire was victorious.`

    After a long War between the British Empire and Germany, Canada came out victorious. Although it was a tough battle and Canada suffered many causalities, their involvement and help during the war will never be forgotten. This war a opportunity to show the world what Canada had, and Canada wasn't afraid to back down

  • The Spanish Flu

    The Spanish Flu

    The Spanish flu was a deadly flu that killed approximately 500 million people from 1918-1920. This flu that was dangerous mostly because of it's potency to kill the young and healthy people. The flu arrived in Canada due to sick Soldier returning from war. This was a terrible time for Canada, as just after a long hard war, many died and suffered due to this disease.

  • Winnipeg General Strike

    Winnipeg General Strike

    Over 30 000 men and women left their jobs on May 15th in 1919 in due to poor wages and working conditions. Some were also speculating that immigrants were stealing their jobs
    These workers went on strike for 6 weeks until Bloody Saturday occurred. Bloody Saturday was an event were police shot and killed 2 people and left 30 injured, the strike was ended after that.

    Roaring 20's

    Many, many, many different things, good and bad, happened during the roaring 20's. From making movies, jazz, radios, watching baseball games, updated appliances... like toasters, to even higher prejudice and racism against non-English immigrants, it was a whole mix match of different ideas.

    The stock market crash of 1929, also known as the Great Depression, was a terrible time for most people living in North America. The stock market experienced major declines in October of that year. Not only were people losing thousands to million of dollars, over 50 most active stocks during that time, diminished to half their market value.
