    This was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved over one hundred million people from over thirty different countries. World war II was the deadliest world conflict in human history.

    Canadian troops went to the United Kingdom to reinforce the British Expeditionary forces.
  • Canadian Vessels

    Canadian Vessels
    Canada had a small navy but did grow tremendously throughout World War II. We had vessels that were convoy escort protecting troop ships and supply ships that would leave from Halifax harbour for Great Brittian. They also protected the east and west coasts of Canada, along with the United States. The main threat for these ships were U boats on the east coast and Japanese submarines on the west. This lasted throughout the whole war.

    Canadian, British and American forces made the first big invasion on mainland Europe. They attacked the bottom of Italy, reaching Naples on October 1st

    The battle of Hong Kong began on December 8th, 1941. Canadians fought with the British and Indian alongside the Hong Kong forces to defend the colony, until the surrender on Christmas day 1941.

    Canadian troops formed most of the Dieppe raid and of the five thousand only around two thousand returned to England. Around one thousand had been killed and two thousand had been taken, prisoner. When arriving in Sicily as part of the eighth Army, five hundred more Canadians lost their lives on July 10th 1943.

    The airmen of Canadian Bomber Squadron became a group of 6. RCAF Bombers were responsible for night bombing of Germany and placing mines in waterways. The group of 6 grew to 14 bomber squadrons along with RCAF Spitfire squadrons which protected the bombers of great Brittian.

    They landed in Normandy part of an allied invasion force. They went Ashore on The beaches code names Gold and Juno.

    This operation happened 45 minutes after operation Goodwood, involving the British mostly. The Canadian forces captured Caen industrial suburbs.

    Canada their allies went to The French capital of Paris, and then liberated it.

    Canada took Antwerp then cleared the north and the western Netherlands fighting 120,000 Germans. Canada freed the Dutch people from the oppression of the Nazis.
