In 1802 Bolivar met his future wife Maria Teresa Rodriguez del Toro y Alaysa. They then married later that year. He was only 19. Soon after she got the Yellow Fever and died.

On august 7 Bolivar led his army into the most important battle of the Spanish American Independence movement the celebrated Battle of Boyaca. The Spanish army was an easy target for Bolivar and his army because they were tired and in poor condition to do battle.

On august 10 1819 Bolivar captured bogota. Bolivar was able to take and kill many soldiers. When Bolivar noticed that if he could get to New canada Bogota would be practically undefended.

On june 25 1820 In the final encounter at Boyaca while Bolivar’s army attacked the main force a half mile away. He captured about 1,800 prisoners and the Spanish commander.
