English arrive
The English arrived at the coast of Virginia and claimed this land. They named the settlement Jamestown in honor of their king. -
Exploring Canada
Samuel de Champlain sailed up the St.Lawrence with 32 colonists and he founded modren day Quebec. This area became known as New France, the area in which the French claimed. -
The Dutch
Henry Hudson an elishman working for the Netherlands came here searching for northwest sea route to asia. He did not succeed in that but, dicoverd three waterways: The Hudson river, Hudson Bay, and Hudson Strait. -
Silent Killer
The English didn't only kill the natives by war but, also disease. In 1616 there was a breakout of smallpox among the natives living along the New Englnd coast. This really lowered the number of the natives by a lot. -
Pilgrims
A group known as the pilgrims founded a second English colony in Massachusetts called Plymouth. They seperated from the rest because they wanted to seek out religious freedom. -
Building up
By 1634 the Dutch had caputred the isalnds of Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. On these islands they built huge cotton and sugar plantations that will soon supply labor for the enslaved Africans. -
Native American VS English
The natives and English have always had a bumpy relationship. One of the bloodiest conflicts was in 1675 and was called King Philip's war. -
More colonizing
By 1750 over 1.2 million English settlers lived in 13 colonies from Maine to Georgia. -
French and Indian war
As the English became more greedy and wanted more land they started to collide with the Frech colonies. One dispute in the Ohio Valley sparked a war between the two called the French and Indian war.
