Women were not allowed to enlist as soldiers, sailors, or pilots, but they worked as nurses caring for the injured soldiers. Nurses like Mae Belle Sampson and Katherine MacDonald, were hero's who had risked their own life's to save the soldiers. These nurses worked in dangerous, overcrowded, stressful conditions proving that women aren't weak and helpless. This had helped changed social attitude towards women. -

On 4 August 1914, Britain officially declared war on Germany. Back then, Canada was a colony of Britain and Canada took part in WW1. This war helped gain respect for the country, but this battle had caused many deaths, killing around 60,000 Canadians and injuring more than 172,000 people. -

Francis Pegahmagabow was a great leader and excellent sniper. He served in the First World War military service, who had helped to save many Canadian soldiers. He was well respected and he was awarded the Military Medal plus two bars for acts of bravery. -

The Vimy Ridge had helped Canada become independent and the battle of the Vimy Ridge was the first time where all 4 Canadian Divisions fought on the same battle. They successfully attacked the German-held strongpoint of Vimy Ridge, but this great victory had lost many lives of Canadiens, 3,598 deaths and 7,000 Canadians injured during the 4 day battle. -

This Wartime Election Act gave the vote to many women like the wives, widows, mothers, and sisters of soldiers serving overseas. Women's rights have been made progress during this period because this was a big progress towards getting the rights they deserve. -

The Treaty of the Versailles was negotiated by three Principle Allied Powers. Treaty of the Versailles had stopped war and bought peace between Germany and the allied nations resolving the war issues. This had helped Canada gain worldwide recognition and this showed progress leading to Canada's independence. -

In 1920, this was the time period where it was illegal to make liquor and this was banned by the Canadian federal government because this had affected the government tax revenues and directly led to the rise of organized crime. The federal government lost tax revenue totaling $11 billion as a result of prohibition and this had a negative affect on the economy. -

The Stock Market Crash had resulted in a large period of decline and had led to the great depression. The stock market ultimately lost $14 billion that day, many people lost their businesses, and lead Canada to an economical depression.
