durring this period of time, new technologies were created that encouraged the development of some of Canada's natural resources. The canadian shield was mined for copper, nickle, and other minerals, people also forested the trees and made lumber. This caused an increase on immigration because these industries were growing.

over time, cities deveolped into places with manufacturing industries which lead to these industries driving people out of their rural lives to work in these manufacturing industries. Many small towns were transformed into huge cities because of this, including Vancouver. The peopl who were employed in these industries were often paid poorly for hard labour, could speak little english and lived very poor lives.
