  • Battle of Tippecanoe

    -Indian leader, Tecumseh attacked William Harrison's encampment (of an indian base). The Indians were outnumbered 2:1; Harrison's troops defeated the Indians.
    -This event occured because certian Indians were not part of the Treaty of Fort Wayne which gave a substantial amount of land for a few cents an acre.
    -The major result of this battle was that Indian's realized that they had to make an alliance with Britain to stop American expansion.
  • Congress Votes For War

    James Madison signed the Declaration of War because the Senate voted 19-13 for a war against Britain.
    Cause: trade restrictions brought about by Britain's ongoing war with France, the impressment of American ships
    Results: The war officially began
  • Battle of Queenston Heights

    Americans attempted to expand their campain in to Canada by taking control of the Niagra River. This was the first major battle of the War of 1812. It resulted in a British victory because it was poorly planned by the Americans.
  • Battle of Lake Erie

    The US navy and Great Britain Royal navy. This battle ensured American control of the lake for the rest of the war. It was one of the biggest naval battles of the War of 1812.
  • Battle of Thames

    American troops crossed Lake Erie forced the British and Indians to surrender. Tecumseh, the Indian chief, was killed in the battle. Tecumseh was the military and spirtual voice of the Indians; his loss was very significant.
  • Battle of Blandensburg

    American defeat which lead to the invasion of Washington DC. It is consideredthe greatest disgrace ever dealt to American arms."
  • Battle of Plattsburgh (Battle of Lake Champlain)

    British forces led by Lieutenant General Sir George Prévost attempted to invade New York. Macdonough and American troops stopped the invasion of New York. This battle is considered a major defensive victory for the United States.

  • Battle of Baltimore

    This was a land/sea battle in which Americans prevented Britain from invading the port city of Baltimore and Ft.McHenry. This battle inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem "Defence of Fort McHenry" which later became the lyrics for "The Star-Spangled Banner".
  • Treaty of Ghent

    The signing of this treaty endedd the War of 1812 and restored the status quo. There was not territorial loss or gain by the United States or Britain. The treaty was not in effect until it was ratified by Congress in February of 1815.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    This battle,lead by General Andrew Jackson, was when American troops defeated an attempted British invasion of New Orleans.
    The Battle of New Orleans is widely regarded as the greatest American land victory of the war.
