Middle class made of lawyers, doctors, dentists, etc.
Problems: insuffiecient land, heavy taxes (60% of their income or more) and ineffective farming method. -

Members of the thrid estate locked out of meeting hall.
Oath: "Never to Separate" until France has a constitution. -
Storming of the Bastille
People storm the Bastille to free prisoners, remove canon and get gunpowder. -
Great Fear
Rumors that nobles are organizing to kill the peasants. Also, the peasants were destroying tax records. -
Declaration of Rights of Man & the Citizen
Nobles recgonize they can't protect their privileges.
All French men will be citizens, subject to one law, paying taxes and eligible to hold offices. -
September Massacres
Killing of imprisoned nobels and priests accused of political crimes.
Radicals now take over the Legislative Assembly and call for a National Convention.
