    Champlain and his people found and settled in Quebec because there were lots of furs and fish to be found and the trading was good.

    Quebec City Surrendered to the Kirk Brothers

    There were a number of political and military events that hindered the colonization efforts. The alliances that were formed by Samuel de Champlain led to wars and created enemies. Causing the city of Quebec to be surrendered.
  • Jesuits Establishment

    Jesuits Establishment

    During the first half century existence there were a lot of missionary work Samuel de Champlain asked the French to be in on his pro settlement campaign. This led to the start of a Canadian Catholic Church. The Jesuits established the St. Marie among the Hurons mission.
  • Death of Champlain

    Death of Champlain

    Samuel de Champlain died on December 25th, 1635 in Quebec New France from a stroke. He was married to Helene Boulle.
  • Iroquois vs Huron's

    Iroquois vs Huron's

    The Huron's returned in 1632 and the Iroquois didn't like that the Huron's were coming back to Quebec city. The Iroquois killed many of the Huron- Wendat who were allies with the French.

    850 woman who were often widowed or military orphans came to New France because New France wanted to stabilize their men to woman ratio. There was a quick marriage and birth rate spiked. New France wanted the males who finished their contract and the soldiers of the Carignan- Salieres to settle down in the colony.

    Hudson Bay Company

    Medard Chouart des Groseilliers and Pierre Esprit Radisson were the first to propose a trading company to reach the interior of the continent vis the Hudson bay. The " Governor and company of Adventurers of England trading into Hudson Bay" were granted wide powers that included exclusive trading rights in the territory that had rivers flowing into Hudson Bay which was named Rupert's land.

    There was a lot of slow but positive growth during this time. France wanted to protect the fishing areas, territory and trade with the colony so France brought forward an imposing fortress in Louisburg. Because of the very high birth rate and growing population parishes.
  • Defeat of Louisbourg Fort

    Defeat of Louisbourg Fort

    17 vessels carrying soldiers from Louisbourg who were under the command of captain Francois du Pont Duvivier. They made a surprise attack on a small English fort and settlement at Grassy land near Canso. The French destroyed the settlement and took the British as prisoners back to Louisbourg.

    Even though the Acadians came from France they were very ignored by the country. This made them open minded and lived for themselves. France and Britain fought over Acadia until 1755. Britain drive the Acadians form their land and homes.
  • Battle of the Plains of Abraham

    Battle of the Plains of Abraham

    General James Wolfe led a British invasion defeated French troops who were under the Marquis de Montcalm which lead to the surrender of Quebec to Britain. Both the commanding officers died from wounds. The French never regained control of Quebec.
  • 7 years war

    The Austrian Habsburgs wanted to win back the province of Silesia which was taken from them by Fredrick the Great of Prussia. Britain and France were also fighting for North America. France lost all claims to Canada and had to give Louisiana to Spain.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris

    The treaty of Paris was signed in Paris by representatives of King George III of Great Britain and representatives of the United States of America. This put an end to the American Revolutionary war and also the hostility between the two countries. Both parties set boundaries for each other.
