    The Muslims succeded in capturing Edessa, one of the primcipal Christians outpost in the East. The fall of the city of Edessa followed by the lost of the Europe to thedanger which threatned the latin kingdom of Jerusalem.

    Saladin was a great leader Muslim leader. He united the Muslims and recaptured Jersusalem for th Muslim after defeating the king of Jerusalem.

    Massacre at Acre
    Richard I of England massacred nearly 3,000 saracen hostages at the Acre because Saladin owned him money. In exchange Saladin was to pay 200,000 gold pieces, relaese some 1,500 Christian pisioner and return the holy cross. These action had to accomplish within one month after the fall. Richard would hold 2,700 muslim. In the end this goal was barely meet.

    Mohammed II, the ottoman leader, dragged 70 ships overload to support the 250,000 troops that were surrounding the city. The ottomans had a 1,200 pound cannon that breached the walls of the city. Once the death of the Byzantine Empire, which had lasted for once thousand years came to an end.

Saladin in character was a typical Mohammedan, very devout in prayers and fasting, fiercely hostile toward unbelievers, and full of the pride of race. To these qualities he added a kindliness and humanity not surpassed, if equaled, by any of his Christian foes. The Third Crusade was caused by the capture of Jerusalem in 1187 by Saladin, the sultan of Egypt.
