The War of 1812 - Mo Ghuneim

  • Beginning of the Napoleonic Wars

This is the date that the treaty binding Great Britian and France to peace was canceled, starting another war between France and Britian. Because France and the British were both super powers at the time, there was a long lived rivalry that lived between them. This impacted the Americas because the Frech were their allies, and helped them in the Revolutionary War to smite the British. Although the Americans were still neutral in the war, despite the Frech's pleas, trouble was yet to come.
  • Impressment of American Sailors

As Britian began to realize that that the United States was supplying the French with weapons and other goods, Great Britian begins to impress American sailors, or kidnap them and force them to fight or work for them. This angers the Americans, but they are still not willing to enter the war. Although the civilians and citizens of the Americas were enraged by this open attack by the British, but the current president calmed the country to avoid another war.
  • British Blockade France

As the war with Great Britian and France progresses, Britian and its superior naval power blockades France, taking hostage over 1000 American trading ships. This lead to increasing tension between Britian and the United States.
  • American Ship Chesapeake is Sunken

American Ship Chesapeake is shot down by British ships, creating a dilema in the Americas and adding fuel to the fire. This was the tipping point for the Americans and was what ultimately lead them to enter the war with the French.
  • America Declares War on Great Gritian

America after years of British harrassment and impressment declares war on Britian and allies with the French. This puts the Americans on the defensive as the British begin to send troops to the Americas.
  • Burning of Washington

British troops storm at the capitol and burn down the White House and other public buildings. Many on both sides are killed, and the current president James Madison escapes freely, and begins to think out peace negotiations with the British.
  • Battle of Baltimore and Fort McHenry

As the Americans defend a busy port city from a naval/land attack, it starts the turning point in the war for Americans as they kill the commanding officer of the British Army.
  • British and Americans Declare Peace

The treaty of Ghent declared peace between Britian and America. Unfortunately the news did not make it in time to most soldiers, and some wars took place even after the treaty was made.
  • Battle of New Orleans

Although a peace treaty had been already signed, the soldiers had not recieved the message in time. The final battle of the war was the greatest military victory, killing 700 British, wounding 1400, and only losing 8 United States Soldiers!
