    The United States Declares War on Geat Britain
    On June first, James Madison (who was the fourth president of the United States) was talking to Congress about declaring a War on Great Britain. James Madison declared the War because Great Britain wouldn't stop seizing American ships. The war wasn't declared until the 18 of June!
  • The Battle of Queenston Heights

    The Battle of Queenston Heights
    The Battle of Queenston Heights started on October 13, 1812. It was the first major battle of the War of 1812. Sir Isaac Brock was a British officer and administrator. He died in the Battle of Queenston Heights. Sir Isaac Brock was British. The British fired at the American boats as they crossed the river. This Battle ended with a British victory!
  • The Battle of Fort George

    The Battle of Fort George
    The United States troops travelled to Fort Niagara after their win of The Battle of York. They prepared for the battle directly across the Niagara River. On May 25, 1813 the Americans bombarded Fort George. They landed on the shore of Lake Ontario on May 27, 1813 instead of the river. The United States soldiers had help from U.S. naval forces killing many of the British. The British soon backed out and they travelled to Burlington Heights (now Hamilton, Ontario)

    The Battle of Stoney Creek
    After the battle of Fort George, the Americans sent out an army to capture the British at Burlington Heights. The Americans set up camp at Stoney Creek to plan for the attack, which took place the next day. The British General, attacked the Americans in the middle of the night. Two U.S. generals were captured and the rest of the Americans left toward the town of Niagara.

    The Battle of Chateauguay
    The American General, Wade Hampton moved his men toward Montreal in late September of 1813. They arrived at the Chateauguay River. Hampton split his men and tried to cross the riverin two spots. Both groups were pinned down by the Canadian commander, Charles de Salaberry, Wade Hampton began to feel outnumbered, leading to the Americans retreating. This ended the battle as the Americans made their way to New York State.

    The Battle of Chrysler's Farm
    This battle was fought on a farmer's field along the shore of the St. Lawrence River. The Battle of Chrysler's Farm was the Americans' last attempt to capture Montreal. It was a disastrous defeat for their army. The British began to attack but then backed out. The Americans attempted to cross the river but also retreated due to the weapons the British had.

    The Battle of Chippawa
    This battle took place on the fields of Samuel Street's farm. The British attacked the Americans. It started early in the mroning and ended in the evening. The British were foced to withdraw so the Americans won. There was about 148 British soldiers killed and about 58 Americans killed.
  • The Fort Erie Attack

    Following the Battle of Lundy's Lane, the Americans retreated and went to Fort Erie. The British Commander was forced to rest his men and find more men. The U.S. solddiers built defenses at Fort Erie as the British attempted to retake Fort Erie. They had failed to do so. After almost two months of fighting him and his troops returned to Fort George. They then left because they wouldn't be able to get supplies for the Winter. This led them to move to Sackets Harbor.

    This battle is also know as The Battle of Plattsburgh. The British were tired of war and wanted it to end. Thousands of British troops and ships were freed up and forced the Americans to discuss ending the war. George Prevost was told to take control of Lake Champlain and capture the American town of Plattsburgh. Two British ships were forced to surrender. The U.S. had successfully prevented the largest British invasion.

    It was the last major battle of the War of 1812. This battle took place after the war was officially over. Many people think that this battle ended the war, but it didn't. The war ended in December, 1814 but the news of the treaty hadn't arrived yet. Before this battle the Americans attacked the British, but then pulled back.
