President Madison Takes office
While the tension with Britian was high, President Madison takes office. Americans were angry that Britian was arming Native Americans in the Northwest. Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun became leaders in the House of Representatives. -
War Hawks take power.
The War Hawks were the the onse eager for war with Britian. In New England, opposition to war was the strongest. New Englanders were scared it would effect American trade. -
Congress Declare war on Britian.
This was not a good time for Britian.Britian provided N.A's with support for protecting canada. Also Britian was still at war with Europe. -
Relations With Great Britian worsen
The British told the United States they would keep impressing sailors. Also in the Northwest, Native Americans began to be New Attacks. That June Congress declared war. -
America is not ready for War
The americans were very confident that they would win. They were not prepared, Jefferson's spending cuts weakend the military strength. We had a very small army, less than 7,000 men, only 16 warships that are ready. -
Britian Blokades American Ports
There were 135 warships blocking Americas ports. They closed the ports by the end of the end of teh war. This caused a major sea battle. -
Invasion of Canada
General William Hull in charge of invading Canada from Detroit. General Isaac Broch and Natives mad William Hull surrender. They took 2,000 U.S men. This was a serius defeat. -
USS Constitution Scores a Victory
There was a major sea battle in the begging. WE deafeted British ships.The artillary on the British ships were not as good as the U.S ships. -
Battle of lake Erie
This battle lasted 3 hours. Oliver hazard perry fought until they won after they where "ship switching". The U.S made British reatreat from Detroit back to Canada. -
Battle at horeshoe Bend
The Natives were defeated in south. Creek warrios attacks U.S settlements in the south. This is when Andrew jackson took over forces. -
Washington D.C Attacked and Burned.
This was one of British Stratgys. Everything that is inportant went to the White House. There were lots of fires. -
Wrtiing the Star Spangled Banner
Franciss Scott Conetticut watched an attack on Baltimore.Early the Next morning ther was a flag hanging over the fort. -
Hartford Convention
A group of conecticuts had met.Some delegates wanted the new england states to secede from the United States. -
Treaty of Ghent
On christmas eve, Britin and America signed the treaty of Ghent . which ended the war. -
Battle of New orleans
The american militatary baeaten. General Andrew Jakcson deafeted Britian at the battle of New Orleans.
