    Before the Viking age, Nords lived peacefully. They planted crops when the weather was right and raised animals. They heavily relied of livestock because crops were unreliable because of the cold climate. Nords will eventually start raiding other villages to get more resources.

    There were Scandinavians who were not content with their place and looked for fortune in other countries. They made longboats sailed through the seas. They sailed to Lindisfarne, a monastery in the British Isles. They killed all the monks, burned the place, and looted all treasures. This marked the beginning of the Viking Age.

    Knowing about the civil war happening in France, the Vikings decided to take advantage and raid it. The king of France immediately paid the Vikings lots of gold and silver and the Vikings agreed to leave. However, word got out and many other Vikings thought that France and the area around it was loaded with cash.

    Ireland was one of the places the Vikings often raided. Ireland was often raided since early 800s and was only able to fight back around 850s. However, many Irish lords were fighting for power, and some of them allied with the Vikings. The Vikings used this opportunity to gain power and land. Dublin will be a trade center for the Vikings. In fact, Dublin got so better that they gained enough power to kick out the Vikings.

    France gave the Viking Chief Rollo some land so that they stop attacking. The Vikings did stop attacking and more or less became an ally of France. They abandoned their paganism as well as their raiding habits. After almost a century, the Vikings of Normandy will be French-speaking Christians.

    Greenland was also discovered just like the way Iceland was discovered, through fleeing Vikings. Erik the Red was a Viking who was exiled in Norway because of his father's number of killings. They then head to Iceland but they were exiled again 3 years later because of the same reason. Erik the Red will then discover and settle in Greenland.

    Knut, the king who was the of Denmark and was elected by his men to rule England. He then conquers Norway afterwards. After his death, his lands were passed to his heirs.

    The Norwegian king Haraldr harðráði attempted to reclaim a portion of England. It was the last major Viking attack in Europe and it marked the end of the Viking Age. Raids were rare and ended in defeat most of the time. The Vikings have moved on and settled peacefully to their lands.
