    On August 26, 1789 the National Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen. This declaration was inspired by the American Delcaration of Indepedence and Consitution. All men were subject to one law, paying all taxes, and eligible to hold all offices. This also ended all tax exemptions.
