The Time of Change

    Thesis: Although the major powers of the world were dealing with trying to supress Russia, the countries that the major powers controlled wanted to gain their independence show how that this era was a time of change and revolution, one of the biggest being the Industrial Revolution.

    American Revolutionary War

    With the British tigtening their control with new taxes, enforcement of laws, housing troops, etc. on the colonies; so the colonists revolted and declared their independence.This was a change, the colonists breaking away from their mother-countries and gaining their own independence.

    The French Revolution

    When the revolution began France was in shamles, a majority of the government funds went to the national debt with many people livining in debt, besides the nobility. People wanted a feform from the governemnt, but their rules (Louis XVI) was seen as weak and indecisive.This was a change as the people of France wanted reforms, they were tired of the continuity.

    Haitian Revolution

    The slaves of Haiti revolted against the French and won their own constituition led by Toussaint Louventure. Since French as already in a bit of shambles they saw this as an oppritunity. This was a change, the salves wanted their own freedoms and scuh, and didn't want to take orders from the French.

    Latin American Independence

    During this time multiple countries within Latin America gained their independence; including, but not limited to, Argentina in 1816, Bolivia 1825, Brazil 1822, Chile 1810, Venezuela 1811, etc. This was a time of change, countries gainined their own independence and creating their own rules.

    Greek Independence War

    The Greek revolutionaries war for Independence from the Ottoman Empire, later assisted by Russia, Great Britian, France, and other European powers. There were many previous attempts by the Freeks to gain independence before, but only this time was it succsesful. This was a change as the Ottomen had heavely ruled the Balkans region, but the Greeks gained their independence.

    Opium Wars

    The Opium Wars were two wars in the mid 1800's involving the Chinese and British over their trade. These wars led to the weakening of the Qing dynasty and opening China's trading ports up. This was a change, for the longest time China had it's ports closed to many countries, but this forced them to open them up.

    Taiping Rebellion

    A rebllion in Qing China that was led by Hong Xiquan against the Qing Dynasty. It had caused drasitc declines in agriculutral production, and also a sign of the decline of China. This was a change since it did mark the decline of China.

    Crimean War

    A military conflict between Russia and France, The United Kingdom, the Ottoman Empire rooted in the expansive efforts of Russia whichch was interrupting the balance of power in Europe at the time. The Crimean War was a continuity as the major powers had tried to supress Russia as soon as it began to try to go to war with other countries.

    Boxer Rebellion

    It was a rebellion in which the Yihetuan (Boxers) violently tried to remove the foreigners from their country. The Boxers attacked foreign embassies. but the British, French, Russian, American, Germans, and Japanese had swift response and retaliated. This was a change as this, again, mark the decline of Qing China.

    Second Boer War

    A brutual conflict that had developed from tensions between the British and Africans. The Boers wanted to remain independent and ignored their new governors. This was a change as the Boers, like most people, wanted to reform their government, or at least their rulers.
