The Story of Me

  • I was born.

    I was born.
Three days before mothers day in 1999 I took my first breathe. My mom was 16 years old and my dad 18, both scared to death about what was going to happen next. They packed up the stuff at the hospital and we went home. I wasn't the first baby in my extended family but it sure did seem that way. My dad didn't live with us but he tried to help as much as possible. He ended up dropping out of school to take care of me and my mom graduated. This event made it possible for me to be who I am today.

    Marissa's Life

Here it is from the beginning to the present, live and on timetoast. Please note that no Marissa Rutherford's have been harmed in the making of this timeline.
  • My dad leaves.

    My dad leaves.
At this point I am about 2 years old and my parents began to have problems. This was expected because of their age and they separated. My mom and I moved in with my aunt and my little cousin and then into a shelter. It felt like it was my mom and I against the world at this time. This was the beginning of my very close relationship with my mom. My mom is very much a huge influence on who I am and this event is the beginning of it.
  • Christian is born.

    Christian is born.
Christian is my little brother who is currently 14. At this point in time I am about 4 and not very happy. I had no idea having a little brother was going to change my life so much. Also at this point my dad has come back which I feel is important to add. Having little brothers made me responsible. Those little, or not so little anymore, people mean the world to me and I would do anything for them.
  • The first day of school.

School has always been very important to me and I believe this definitely influences my personality. School has always been a safe place to go to forget everything else that was going on. This event marks the beginning of when I started really developing my personality and becoming my own person. School also started developing the social part of me to. I am a very sociable and friendly person and this is probably the cause of that as well.
  • I meet Danielle Mcdermott.

    I meet Danielle Mcdermott.
Danielle Mcdermott was my very first best friend. I met her in second grade and we have been inseparable ever since. I think the people you surround yourself with are possibly the greatest influence on your personality. She brings out the best and the worst in me. I am more funny, outgoing, and open minded as a result of this event. Even the negative traits I have she has helped me with for example, being inconsistent, anxious, or disorganized.
  • Jessica Mcdermott dies.

Jessica Mcdermott was my best friends mother but, she was there for me at times my mother wasn't. On April fools day at school I was called into the office where my best friend also sat and we were told her mother had passed away earlier that morning and our parents were on the way This is the first tragedy I had experienced and it made me appreciate and grateful. I am always thankful of what I have and don't take anything or anyone for granted because of this.
  • Starting high school.

High school was a very important time for many different reasons. I think in high school i really became who I am and worked out the details of my personality. As I said earlier in the timeline school was always a safe haven for me and still was. During this time outside of school was a little crazy for me and I lost both of my mom's parents within 6 months of this event. This resulted in me immersing myself in school. I am as studious and intelligent as i am because of this.
  • Start working at Mats Pharmacy

This event brought out the passionate side of me. Quickly after starting my job at Matt's I realized it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Caring for people and helping them even if it is just to help them understand, is a feeling I realized I didn't want to live without. I completely fell in love with the people and the job so quickly. This resulted in me changing my major and seeing a different, more caring and compassionate side of myself.
  • Commiting to Temple for Pharmacy school.

Commiting to Temple for Pharmacy school.
This is the first big thing in my life that I have done for myself. In the later part of my adolescence my parents and I became distant. I attributed this to my brothers needing the attention but, I really didn't mind until I started having to do things on my own.I knew what I wanted to do and I had to figure out how to make it happen for myself because no one else was going to do it for me. This event made me independent and I am a stronger person because of it.
  • Leaving home.

Most recently this event has been the most influential. Leaving home and deciding there were better things out there for me was the hardest decision I have made in my life thus far. I wasn't sure if I wanted to include this event but after thinking and realizing how much it as changed me, I had to. I have learned so much about myself in the last month of my life. I am strong and a survivor. This event showed me these things. Perhaps they have been there all along but, this event opened my eyes.
