Dr. Martin Luther King, Civil Rights Activist was gunned down on this day. I didn't understand why my parents were crying nor why it was all over the televsion. For days people were burning buildings and this scared me.

When I was entering elementary our head start program was held the summer before the school year began.At the end of the program at big parade was held. We could ride our bikes or tricyles and had beautiful costumes made out of crape paper.

In first grade my mom enrolled me in dancing lessons at the local gym in our neighborhood. I learned tap, modern jazz & ballroom style dancing.

During the summer of 1970 the training wheels came off and I learned to ride a bike.

My oldest sister got married and I was the flower girl.

My oldest sister gave birth to a little boy. He was the first grandchild and my first experience of being an aunt. I told everyone at school.

During the summer of 1973 I became interested in gymnastics. I self taught cartwheels, round-offs, splits, back bends and no hand flips.

Every summer I went on vacation with my daddy. Every year we went to Georgia. In 1973 I went to New York. I loved the Big Apple. My aunt had a house on Jamaica Bay and a candy store on the Atlantic Ocean. The boardwalk and waves are the most memorable. Visiting Coney Island's amusement park and shopping at Macy's are a close 2nd. While we were in New York my uncle taught me how to fish.

My daddy was in and out the hospital with stomach problems. We didn't know what was wrong. He retired from his job in September of 1975.

I started my period the summer before 6th grade the blessed event happened. I made my money babysitting and french braiding boys hair. My mom made me stop braiding hair because she didn't want boys sitting between my legs. Well I learned how to braid hair standing up.

I graduated from elementary on this day. I was excited because I was going to one of the biggest and hardest high schools in Chicago.

I started smoking marijuna with my oldest brother.

I started drinking alcohol with my friends. This was my first time.

In was one of 1300+ plus students to begin attending Chicago Vocational High School.

I met my high school sweetheart at a baseball game for our school.

My dad gave me permission to smoke cigarettes in my bedroom. I didn't like sneaking to smoke.

I went on my first prom with my high school sweetheart.

After eight years of living together and 4 children my brother gets married.
