The Life of Brooke

  • The day I was born

My mom had to miss my brother's first day of preschool. She always said she was thrilled, but felt horrible the day I was born.
  • My parents got divorced

It was a mutual decision between my parents. I stayed living with my mom.
  • I entered high school

I was a three sport athlete throughout my first two years of high school and loved every minute of it. I played basketball, volleyball and softball.
  • I took my first journalism class

Sophomore year in high school is when I took my first journalism class and I loved it. We were able to visit the Chicago Tribune and see the process of printing out a daily newspaper.
  • It was goodbye mom's passenger seat and hello license

I was the first person out of my friends to get my license. Therefore, they all got the honor of driving around in my grandma's 1999 white Intrigue.
  • Senior year I joined the golf team

Senior year a bunch of my girlfriends decided to join the golf team. We surprisingly were a lot better than we had imagined. It was way out of my comfort zone to try something completely different, but it was without a doubt one of the funnest experiences I've tried.
  • High School graduation

After parting from the many familiar faces, which I had been with for approximately 12 years, it was time for me to head to UW-Milwaukee.
  • Move in day at UW-Milwaukee

I bawled like a baby and didn't let my mom leave until 8 hours after my scheduled move in.
  • My brother was hit by a drunk driver

My older brother was hit by a drunk driver and his car went rolling over the highway. The drunk driver who hit him got away. Unfortunately my brother had a few drinks in his system, which caused him to not only deal with a totalled car, but suffer the legal consequences as well.
  • I departed for a semester in Valladolid, Spain

I am double majoring in Spanish as well. Therefore, what better way to learn Spanish than to live in a Hispanic country. It was the most incredible experience. I was able to live with a Spanish family, attend a Spanish university, tutor English to young Spaniard girls and travel.
  • Got my first car

When I returned from Spain I bought my first car, a 2012 Chevy Cruze.
  • Landed my first internship

I received my first internship at WUWM- Lake Effect.
  • I met Robin Roberts

On a trip to New York City we went to the filming of Good Morning America. I was able to meet John Stamos and Robin Roberts. I told Robin I was a journalism student and she said, "I wish you the best of luck with your future!"
