  • Louis XVI crowned King of France

    At age nineteen he ascends to the throne. The state neared bankruptcy.
  • Calling of the Estates-General

    It was called by Louis XVI in Versailles to discuss and approve a new tax plan. The 3rd Estate wanted their freedom like the other 2 Estates.
  • The Tennis Court Oath

    It was a pivotal event during the first days of the French Revolution. The Oath was a pledge signed by 576 of the 577 members from the Third Estate who were locked out of a meeting of the Estates-General on 20 June 1789.
  • Formation of the National Assembly

    Holds the members of the 3rd estate. It was made to be seperate from the other 2 Estates.
  • Attack on the Bastille

    A prison that was attacked by agressive and abgry mob. The prison had become a symbol of the monarchy's dictatorial rule, and the event became one of the defining moments in the Revolution that followed.
  • The Great Fear

    It was a period of panic and riot by the peasants. There were rumors to overthrow the 3rd Estate.
  • French Women Force Louis XVI To Leave Versailles

    Angry mob of nearly 7,000 marched towards Versaille. The were holding pitchforks, pikes and muskets.
  • Declaration of War Against Austria

    The Legislatuve Assembly declared war on Austria. The French armies lacked organization and discipline, and many noble officers had emigrated.
  • The National Convention Is Formed

    It was a single-chamber assembly in France. It split into two major factions: the moderate Girondins and the radical Jacobins.
  • Louis XVI Is Executed

    It was the end of Louis XVI's reign. He was no longer liked by France and took death by the guillotine
  • The Reign of Terror

    It was the period of violence that occured during the French Revolution. The death toll ranged in the tens of thousands, with 16,594 executed by the guillotine.
  • The Thermidorian Reaction

    The parliamentary revolt initiated on 9 Thermidor, year II (July 27, 1794). This resulted in the fall of Maximilien Robespierre and the collapse of revolutionary fervour and the Reign of Terror in France.
  • The Directory is Formed

    It operated following the National Convention and preceding the Consulate. It was set up by the constitution.
  • Napoleon Takes Power

    He took power over France. He was hoping to lead France to being a peaceful country.
  • Napoleon Invades russia

    He invaded Russia with about 600,000 men and over 50,000 horses. His plan was to bring the war to a conclusion within twenty days by forcing the Russians to fight a major battle. Just in case his plans were off, he had his supply wagons carry 30 days of food.
  • Napoleon defeated at Waterloo

    Napoleon had finally been defeated in Belgium at the Battle of Waterloo. His reign had finally come to an end.
